| MANAGER STEVE LOVELL Took over management post after George Wakeling resigned, a legend at Hastings after his precious goals kept Hastings Town up in their first season in then the Beazer Homes Premier Division. He had a hard task after having only four players when he joined the club; he went out and then signed up 26 players to give United a decent sized squad for the first time in years. He has six Welsh international caps also playing experience with Crystal Palace, Millwall, Gillingham, Stockport County, Swansea City, Bournemouth, Sittingbourne, and of course Hastings. His management and coaching experience was at Gravesend & Northfleet, Tonbridge, Ashford Town, Deal Town (he won the FA Vase back in 2001) and Gillingham where he is now youth coach. He also won Sittingbourne promotion back in 1995 into the Dr Martens Premier. ASSISTANT MANAGER VINCE MOORTEN Joined the club during the summer of 2002 when he was named as the Reserve Manager, where he was a success with them winning the Sussex Intermediate Cup. He has also had experience with Hailsham Town of the Sussex County League. Was promoted to Assistant by manager Steve Lovell. GOALKEEPERS MATT BROWN Age 18 Debut 16/8/03 v Corby Town DME Outstanding up and coming keeper, with a lot of potential probably the best player from the reserves to have made the most impact at the higher level of the game. Joined United as sub keeper in 2002 but went to Hailsham Town for a brief spell, came back in summer of 2003 and has now cemented his place as in the squad and is likely to challenge the rest for the number 1 jersey, and will be very hard to knock him off it. GREG NESSLING Age 21 Debut 20/12/03 v Sittingbourne DME Signed from next door neighbours St Leonards, where he was number 1 for nearly two years. Greg received rave reviews when with St Leonards in the division the season before. Very good at crosses He is son of league committee member David Nessling. DEFENDERS PETER SAYERS Age 24 Debut 16/8/03 v Corby Town DME Impressed manager Steve Lovell in the pre-season of 2003. Previously played in local-football and became a first team player at right-back, but broke his leg at Sittingbourne just three games into the new season. KIEREN STARTUP Age 20 Debut 16/8/03 v Corby Town DME A regular with our successful reserve side last season was on the bench a couple of times last season but didn�t manage to make his debut, but was drafted in at the last minute, and really he hasn�t looked back since. RUSSELL ELDRIDGE Age 20 Debut 28/11/00 v Langney Sports SSC Russell has been on the brink of the first team for nearly two years now made his debut in the Sussex Senior Cup game against Langney Sport (now Eastbourne Borough) Has never let the side down always gives 100% and given another chance to shine, filling in at the start of the season at right-back for Peter Sayers. Had spells with local sides Sidley United and St Leonards. SIMON STICKNEY Age ?? Debut 28/10/03 v Folkestone Invicta DMC Tall young confident lad who signed from local football, has been given chance to shine and is now a squad member, star in the making, also can operate as a winger. LEE HOCKEY Age 19 Debut 1/1/04 v Tonbridge Angels DME Tall talented strong defender who signed from Conference side Gravesend & Northfleet, made a couple of appearance in the Conference. While impressing on his debut he also got sent off and on his third appearance got injured that�s ruled him out for the rest of the season. JIMMY ELFORD Age ?? Debut Jimmy now in his second spell at the club, where he progressed through the youth and reserves to become a squad member. He joined neighbours St Leonards, where he spent two and an half years, before coming back to play for the U�s. Very versatile player. MIDFIELDERS PETER TAYLOR Age 20 Debut 16/8/03 v Corby Town DME Exciting winger who signed from local football this season, scored on his debut against Corby Town, and thrilled us supporters with his skills throughout our pre-season campaign. Has been out for five months this season with medial ligament damage. CHARLIE BELCHER Age ?? Debut 11/10/03 v Eastleigh DME Very small young player. Little Charlie always gives 100%, a very hard tackler will always go for a ball, (even if he�s against a guy double his size) very versatile player, who�s creating mind has made himself an important player. Also has a very lethal lob. STEVE RINGWOOD Age 20 Debut 18/10/03 v Rothwell Town DME Steve signed for United from local football, but comes back to the club where he was as a boy. Progressed through the youth system but didn�t manage to make it to the first team. But since playing in local football, he has risen to the higher level very well. STEVE HAFNER Age 20 Debut 23/8/03 v Sittingbourne DME Steve signed from Dr Martens Premier Division side Dover Athletic at the start of the season, after being contacted by Steve Lovell, he also turned down a two-year contract with Dover to play under Steve Lovell. He can play at the back to winger to a striker, very fast tricky player who has a strong future in the game. Has experience with Gillingham, Margate, Sittingbourne, Folkestone Invicta, and Dover Athletic. RYAN PETERS Age 19 Debut 16/8/03 v Corby Town DME An exciting player who joined us on a free transfer at the beginning of the pre-season, scored on his debut with a fantastic goal against Corby. He spent three seasons at Gillingham before getting released in January then he joined Folkestone Invicta and made a couple of starts before joining us this season. RICKY SPILLER Age 23 Debut 16/8/03 v Corby Town DME Signed for United at the start of our pre-season campaign after being spotted in local football, can be distinguished by his light blonde hair. Has got a lot of ability and potential to become a first-class player. STEPHEN GRAHAM Age 18 Debut 16/8/03 v Corby Town DME Great prospect for the future, he proved himself and forced himself into the first team at the start of the new season, he made an impressive starting debut against Burgess Hill when he scored United�s goal. But due to injury has been forced to sit out a few months. But will be back soon. STRIKERS CHRIS HONEY Age 20 Debut 29/2/00 v Margate DMC A highly talented striker who has pace and ability to hold up the ball very well, also takes a powerful shot. Signed from Millwall at the end of the 1999/2000 season after signing for them from Hastings Town�s youth system. A successful championship-winning season ending up joint team top goalscorer with 15. This was unfortunately followed by only three goals in the premier. But now he can try and get back on track. CARL ROOK Age 20 Debut 30/8/03 v Bracknell Town FAC Carl started the season as a defender, but after a heavy defeat by Eastleigh, was put upfront by manager Steve Lovell, in first match he scored, and didn�t stop his first three games upfront he scored in all three games. Has a good eye for goal. Is very useful in the air. Had experience with Folkestone Invicta, Sittingbourne and Deal Town. MARK LOVELL Age 20 Debut 16/8/03 v Corby Town DME Mark is the son of manager Steve Lovell, and has experience at football league level when he made his debut with Gillingham first team at Watford as a sub two seasons ago, a regular scorer at non-league level has been loaned to neighbours St Leonards where he netted eight times in eight games last season. Out for rest of the season with knee problems. MITCHELL SHERWOOD Age 17 Debut 16/8/03 v Corby Town DME A very young lad made his debut with Hastings at the age of 16. Joined in the pre-season of 2003-2004 and made an impression so much that he is a regular in the starting XI. He signed from Gillingham Youth team where Steve Lovell is coach. Has a lot to offer and has no problem running at defenders. SCOTT HAYHOE Age 19 Debut 25/8/03 v Burgess Hill Town DME Scott is a product of the very successful reserve side at Hastings; he is a constant scorer for the reserves. Although his lack of height, he makes up for it with weight, he can bustle through defences, and is capable of scoring at this level. |
