DEFENCE PROVES COSTLY AGAIN

Steve Lovell had a wake up call after the United defence cost United again.  United were plain sailing for the first half hour when it was only the home side making the real chances, but one mistake led to another, and eventually United were well beaten 4-1, it wasnt a fair reflection of the match 8 shots on goal and only 1 goes in, and that was a penalty.

But the side from Wiltshire did put United under some pressure straight away Tubbs headed easily wide and Davies in-swinging cross had to be palmed off the line by Toal.  Then Mark Goodwin got in the clear, the keeper came rushing out, the keeper collided with Goodwin but Bartlett rescued the ball when only being five yards from going over the line for a goal.

Then United had four quick chances, Steve Hafner saw his weak shot held by keeper Sawyer then Stuart Myalls dipping shot only just skimmed the bar, then Mitchell Sherwood had his shot deflected straight to the keeper, and it was Mitchell and Carl Rook that missed a literally easy cross that eventually went out of play.

But it was getting too good for United fans, Tubbs got past Eldridge, he made a pass that was blocked another pass was blocked, then Wallace saw his shot saved by Toal but Tubbs was at the far post to hammer home.  The goal did down heart United quite a bit with only Steve Hafner attempted lob and Mitchell Sherwood deflected shot at the keeper the only attacking action from United in that half.

But it wasnt all for the visitors, Matthew Tubbs got past Eldridge and Toal but somehow missed an rather easy open goal, his shot was so soft Toal walked back to the goal and smothered it before a goal kick wouldve been given.  Wayne Turks header at Toal and Craig Daviss high and wide attempted lob the only other action from the first half.

The second half came at some controversy when with minutes gone Will Toal collected a through ball which he smothered, Matthew Tubbs also went for it, Toal go to it first by a long way but Tubbs went in two footed and studs showing, surely a red card many thought, but Mr Bottomers hysterical decision to not give anything was the answer, sorry a drop ball between Toal and Mr Nobody.

Then Matthew Tubbs came an instant villain, when he went though, Toal came out got the ball made no contact with Tubbs but Tubbs went over and Toal got booked, another hysterical decision by the fat man in black.  Then the killer punch Wallace collected the ball, he hit a shot which hit defender David Henham on the shoulder and wrong-footed Toal and the ball ended up in the net, completely the other side to where it was supposed to go.

Then Matthew Tubbs got past Henham again but his poor one-on-one finishing let him down when Toal easily beat him to the ball although Tubbs had controlled it twice.  But Tubbs did make up for it after that when yet again he got past Henham and this time shot past Toal to score his second of the game.

United didnt find their stride, and although Honeys header at goal, Jimmy Elfords deflected shot that went wide and Russell Eldridges weak shot at the keeper did bring some fluency it didnt bring any joy.

But while attacking United found themselves even more behind, Tubbs got through he headed over Toal, Toal palmed it away and Wayne Turk headed home.  But City had even more chances, when Phillips rose at the back post unmarked and free and he missed an open goal when his header went over the bar.

But there was some time for joy with the United gang, Hayhoe got into the box and Stuart James clearly pushed Hayhoe over, a penalty was given and Carl Rook stepped up and put the ball into the far right hand side when the keeper went to the left.  It was the only thing Rook had done right in the second half, fooled the keeper wasnt that hard to do really.  But United need to sharpen their act when a six pointer against Fleet Town on Saturday can clear us from the relegation zone (This time last year I thought Id never be saying that)

Mark Goodwin was injured after 40 minutes and went off, the collision with the keeper was the main cause, its unknown if hell be fit for Saturday.  Thats when we started going downhill.

ClaretnBlue Man Of The Match

Will Toal

His best game in United colours, couldnt help any of the goals, had hardly anything in front of him in the last 45 minutes.  Kept United in the match, if I was him I wouldve smacked Matthew Tubbs the short arsed little git.
