PATHETIC DEFENDING GIFTS FISHER

Fisher Athletic 4 (Brady 20 Min, Rouse 28 Min, Abbott 49 Min, Young 86 Min)

Some pathetic defending from the United lads gave Fisher a point at the Pilot Field today.  But even an eight goal thriller didnt hide the way that United went from 1-0 up to 3-1 down after 49 minutes, but give them credit they brought it back to 4-3 up after 76 minutes.

The goals just started after 41 second when Mitchell Sherwood zoomed past Lorraine and put in a devilish cross that touched Terry Khans boot and into the net past OHara.  Then Mark Goodwin got literally a one-on-one but OHara saved again.

Mitchell Sherwood then saw his shot deflected over the bar, and Carl Rook saw his glancing header ran across the face of the goal.  But Fisher did see some of the United goal, when Richard Brady who caused United problems at Fisher saw his header fly over Will Toals crossbar.

Then Fisher pulled back from what can only be called a poor defensive mistake.  Russell Eldridge thought he had more time on the ball but his cross hit Smith on the leg, the ball bounced to Richard Brady who lobbed Toal, Toal did get a touch on the ball but not enough to prevent Fisher equalising.

Then Fisher took the lead the ball was hanging around the box and Rouse got a touch on the ball before Toal and it was strong enough to get Fisher into the lead.  Then Brady saw his shot go pitifully wide.  Then United saw Ricky Spiller go off for the impressive Steve Sands, and it showed as his ball into the area set up Goodwin to shoot straight at OHara.

Into the second half and United were behind before they caught their breath after their half time cuppa.  Well known veteran and now player-manager Gary Abbott escaped the offside trap and beat Will Toal on the one-on-one and seemed to put the match beyond United, we couldnt be more wrong.

Within eight minutes of going 3-1 down United brought one back, Steve Ringwoods impressive cross was met by Stuart Myalls head and United had the confidence again.  And three minutes later United were back on level terms, Goodwin made space for his shot, he turned his man only to see his shot rebound off the post, then Myall had his shot saved, and then Steve Ringwood ran into the box and hit it into the top corner.

United were on a high, and Mitchell Sherwood got into the box and hammered it against OHara who saved Fisher again.  But United got what they deserved on 76 minutes when Rook, Myall and Ringwood had their shots blocked by the keeper on the ground in the area, the ball fell to Goodwin who dispatched the ball home.

Then Mark Goodwin nearly put the game beyond doubt (again!!) when he was released by Rook but his one-on-one shot was blocked by OHaras legs and this was to be decisive.  With four minutes to go Fisher heaped on the pressure and got an equaliser, the defenders let Ian Young free on the edge of the box, Young stroke the ball over Toal and in the net, a good goal.

Fisher mustve gone home the happier, but United threw away two points and now three points away from Burnham and Corby who both won at home.  Surely the defence needs to tighten when high flyers Salisbury City come to town on Tuesday evening.

ClaretnBlue Man Of The Match

Steve Ringwood

Fantastic throughout the game, got stuck in when needed created one and scored one in front of goal.
