| NORMAL SERVICE RESUMED | ||||||||
| Banbury United 1 (Simms 70 Min) Hastings United 0 Attendance 280 United means Hastings United Steve Lovells side didnt get the three points this time as a normal result that some fans expected was achieved by the home side. But it did take a quality goal from Mark Simms on 70 minutes to beat United. United didnt take the highest paid player Chris Honey, as he was dropped to the reserves. United defended very well, that frustrated Banbury, although they had the first chance Wayne Blossoms header was straight at Greg Nessling, although he did spill a shot after that but collected before anyone else. But a set piece was taken and Jimmy Elford rose above everyone and his header hit the post. The second half was quite even although United had the best chances, George Redknap had Banburys best chance with his header going straight into Greg Nesslings mitts. Jason Allen flicked the ball onto Mark Simms who tried an over-head kick, the ball went onto the underside of the crossbar and went over the line, Nessling had no chance. But United thought back and pulverised the Banbury defence, Mark Goodwin got behind the defence and pulled Simon Tricker into a great save, to keep Banbury in the lead. Steve Ringwood and Ryan Peters coming close. But in the end United went home unhappy, a draw shouldve been a fair result, but is life ever fair Many thanks to Jason who gave me some match notes. |
