History
Eric and I met in college. We started mostly talking during the 2nd year because we were in seperate groups the 1st year. But that's how it all started, just by talking and hanging out during our breaks.
Eventually, Eric, Luc and I began partnering up for some projects which allowed us to hang out even more.
I think our friendship really clicked when I got sick in the fall of 2000. The reason for this is because we were the 2 guys in the class that would fall ill every now and then from a similar health problem. He had been going through this since a young age, but for me, it was the beginning of a very hard period of my life. So, we were the only 2 people who really understood what the other one was going through.
While everyone else was telling me to suck it up and that other people have it worst than me, he'd take the time to offer me some good avice. Good avice on how to deal with what I had and on accepting it. It was easier talking to him because I knew he'd understand and wouldn't make me feel bad for being angry at life.
**Little piece of advice to anyone who tries to help a friend accept a medical condition: Never tell them that "other people have it wosrt". Personaly, I felt like shit when someone would tell me that because it made me feel guilty for complaining about my situation. I felt like people were telling me to shut up, that they didn't want to hear about it. That they didn't really care to help me. Now, I do see that some people have it worst. But it does take time for anyone going through something like this to accept it. So just listen and try to understand what your friend has to go through each day. It can make a big difference.**
Medical issues aside, we still had many great times. I'd say he's the best friend I made during my college years. We just got along great, never any problems.
These days, Eric works for the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines. We keep in touch by e-mail, and by going for supper every now and then to catch up.
Why He's a Good Friend
Eric is a good friend because he's a nice, respectable guy. We just get along great. He's easy going, always friendly, just fun to be around.
He never looks down, always at a smile, a joke. Never makes you feel uncomfortable no matter what you are discussing.
