Pritchard, Dr. R. John
My Family, Of Course, Occupies The Centre Stage Of My Existence. My Wife Is Lady Elaine Lodge-Pritchard. Ela, Who Earned A PHD In Chemistry, Later Qualified As A Chartered Accountant, But She Is Now Fully Employed In Keeping Me Well-Fed, My Nose Clean, My Shoes Polished. She Has A Son Of 23, Simon, Who Recently Completed A Degree In Applied Physics And Runs A Company Called Games With Brains and Has Lots To Do Forcing Computers To Think Independently. I Raised My Own Two Children, Robert & Michelle, After A Previous Marriage: Both Are Now Completing Their University Education. Robbie Wants To Be An Accountant Like His Step-Mother, And At Last Count Sheiley Aims To Become Involved With The Media. Generally I Write For My Living, Mainly Under The Auspices Of Universities & Financed By Independent Academic Foundation. For Fifteen Years, I Compiled A 27-Volume Work On the International Military Tribunal For The Far East At The London School Of Economics (Where I Also Earned My Doctorate In 1980). During The Past Three Years I Have Been A Post-Doctoral Research Fellow In The Department Of War Studies At Kings College (University Of London) Preparing A Forthcoming 21-Volume Series For Publication On The British War Crimes Trials in The Far East While Teaching Modem History Part-Time At The University Of Kent In Canterbury. However, In October I Shall Be Taking Up A Short-Term Senior Research Fellowship In the Department Of History At The University Of Manchester To Give Me Time To Write A Textbook On The Misconduct Of War And The Rule Of Law Next Year. I've Also Done A Bit Of Television And Radio Broadcasting On the Side. To Manage These Activities, I Run A Small Marketing Company (Historical Enterprises). My Best-Known Work Is Probably Total War: Causes & Courses Of The Second World War, On Which I Collaborated With Peter Calvocoressi. Much To My Delight And Surprise, Its Hardback Edition Has Been Widely (Although Undeservedly) Praised As "The Best Single-Volume Account Of The Conflict": It Is Available As A Two-Volume Edition In Paperback. One Reviewer Went So Far As To Declare, "Few Written Records Deserve, Like Gibbon's Decline & Fall Of the Roman Empire, To Rank For Generations To Come As The Authoritative Work On Decisive Events In World History. This Is Fairly Certainly The Category in Which Total War Belongs. " But It All Started, Of Course, At Granite Hills. (1993)
