Every 2nd Hand an Adventure (E2HAA)

In this system, based on the style of Fulvio Fantoni and Claudio Nunes (nicknamed "Fantunes"), all 1-level suit opening bids are forcing and a bit stronger than standard 1-level opening bids. Intermediate hands are opened 1NT or on the 2-level. This makes the average opening bid rather high and puts pressure on the opponents. And most of all, it's fun.

Surprisingly, one strong point is the intermediate two-level bids. For over 100 examples of the 2-level opening bids as used by Fantunes have a look at this overview as PDF. As you can see from the running score, the Italians are doing great when they open on the 2-level.

Description of the newest version

In this newest version, hands with both majors are no longer opened on the two-level. This treatment has been adopted from Fantunes, who are doing the same after realizing that the danger of missing game in the major that has not been opened is too costly.

    Two over one (almost) GF

After an opening bid of 1-of-a-major, opener is known to have either extra values or both majors. This means that when responder bids a 2-over-1 response showing 11 HCP or equivalent values, the only nonforcing sequences are those involving opener showing both majors. To simplify the auction, game is reached whenever a major suit fit is found. As a corollary, 1 - 2 is game forcing.

When the opening bid is 1, no problems arise. After a response of 2/ and a rebid of 2, responder's two non-GF rebids are:

    1 - 2 - 2 - ?

  • 2NT : Invitational, not a one-suiter
  • 3: Invitational one-suiter
  • Responder's 2 rebid is a GF waiting bid, including strong one-suiters in the minor, promising no fit.

When the opening bid is 1, slightly less room is available. For this reason, opener's rebids are reversed:

  • 1 - 2/ - 2: 5+ + 4
  • 1 - 2/ - 2: No 4-card 4, full values (6+ or a minimum with 5 + 4 in the other minor)

After the 2 rebid by opener, responder's non-forcing rebids are:

    1 - 2 - 2 - ?

  • 2NT : Invitational, not a one-suiter
  • 3: Invitational one-suiter
  • Again, responder's 2 rebid is a GF waiting bid, including strong one-suiters in the minor, promising no fit.
In the sequence 1 - 2/ - 2, opener has denied four cards in , ruling out a possible fit in that suit.

Opening a major in third and fourth seat

In third and fourth seat, it is recommended to open 1 or 1 with less than the rule-of-22 not only on hands with both majors, but also with a 5 - 5 distribution (5/ + 5/). As responder doesn't have an unbalanced hand with a good 9-count or more, a different response structure is adopted:

    Pass - 1 - ?

  • 1: 0 - 11, 4+
  • 1NT: 0 - 7, no 3-card or 4-card
  • 2: 8 - 11, no 4/ (Non-fit Drury)
  • 2: 6 - 9, 3
  • 2: 0 - 5, 3
  • 2: 6 - 11, 4+, no shortness
  • 2NT: Minisplinter, short
  • 3: Minisplinter (6 - 9 HCP), short
  • 3: Minisplinter (6 - 9 HCP), short
  • 3: Preemptive raise

    Pass - 1 - ?

  • 1NT: 0 - 7, no 3-card
  • 2: 8 - 11, no 5 or 4 (Non-fit Drury)
  • 2: 6 - 8, 6+ or 9 - 11, 5 (usually balanced)
  • 2: 6 - 9, 3
  • 2: 0 - 5, 3
  • 2NT: 6 - 11, 4+, no shortness
  • 3: Minisplinter (6 - 9 HCP), short
  • 3: Minisplinter (6 - 9 HCP), short
  • 3: Minisplinter (6 - 9 HCP), short
  • 3: Preemptive raise

    Non-fit Drury

After Pass - 1M - 2, opener bids 2 with all minimum hands and 18+ balanced hands:

    Pass - 1 - 2 - ?

  • 2: 11 - 15 or 18+ balanced
  • 2: 14 - 16 balanced
  • 2: GF, reverse
  • 2NT: 16+, 5 + 4/
  • 3: GF, 5 - 5
  • 3: GF, 6+

    Pass - 1 - 2 - 2 - 2 (8 - 9 HCP, preference) - ?

  • 2NT: 17+ balanced
  • 3/3: 5 - 5, to play

    Showing the other major (non-GCC)

    Pass - 1 - 2 - ?
  • 2: To play opposite a 6 - 8 with 6
  • 2: Signoff
  • 2NT: Ogust
    Playing in GCC-events, use 2 as constructive raise and 2 as 8 - 11 with 5.
