Eastern Grounds

The low picket fence lines this east side of the property to the enclosed area where it raises to tall fencing. Tall old maple trees are along the curbside.

George planted the Colorado Blue Spruce tree in the east front yard wanting a slow growing evergreen that we could easily decorate for the holidays. Through the years we could decorate it from the ground but now it has grown to a stage where we needs a ladder and more lights to adorn it.

There is sidewalk in front of the house on Manito Place and along the fence line on Grand Blvd. Sprinklers keep the curb lawns green. You will see in the picture above that the sidewalk goes to the curb in line with the walkway to the house.

In the east lawn he planted nine evergreens that encircles a replica Roman statue. A thought at one time was to put in French doors from the Clock Room to enter the garden.

He also planted ten Japanese Red Dwarf Maples as he wanted slow growing trees that would provide color but limit the amount of shade in the area. These trees only grow two inches a year.

The east fence is lined with pink peonys. Draped with the shade from the large trees on the curb easement of Grand Avenue they receive the afternoon sun and bloom feverously.

The large northeastern corner of the property is entirely fenced-in with a gate. The eastern and northern section is tall flush eight foot board fencing. The south and west of this section is slatted spaced wood with the west area having a high gate to the walkway behind the house. It is completely concreted except for a bed of tall narrow evergreen bushes across the northern back which provide privacy and shade. It is a great area for gatherings and a safe place for children to play. In the spring, summer and fall the trees provide shade and privacy.

Gateway to the fenced area this spring.

In pictures below you will see that in the spring the trees block the view of houses across Grand Blvd. This area is very secluded through to winter. This area is in the back of the next image behind the fencing.

Along the slatted spacd wood fencing on the garden side of this enclosure, climbing rose bushes are entwined through the fencing and at the corner a number of light purple rose bushes are in constant season bloom.
