Morning Train to Jefferson City:

Saturday morning began as planed, I got up early to catch the local metro  up to the train station. I had no problem getting there an my train to Jefferson City left right on time. I was going down for the day to join my family in celebrating my parents 55 wedding anniversery. My sister and neice were coming in from St. Louis, annother neice from Vergina and one of my brothers was joining the rest of the family who live in Jeff for the celebration.

Once on the road we were told that we would have to go about 25 mph (45kph) through the city as all of the lights and gates were not working because of the lack of power caused by the ice storm. I had no problem w/ this as it made perfect sense. What I didn't cound on was the fact that we were actually going to be going at this speed all the way to Jeff.

I had inteded to make regualr trips between Jefferson City and Kansas City via Amtrak but having made the trip at the pace of 25 miles an hour, then pulling over for four different occasions to let freight trains go by us all of which combined to make us over three hours late on a three hour trip on a clear dry winter day was unacceptable, not only will I switch to travel by car for my trips between J.C. and K.C. but will avoid taking Amtrak when ever possible.

At no point did the conductor explain why we were so behind schedual, give us a revised ETA or apologize for the inconvience. If I hadn't asked the attendent I never would have found out why we were going so slow.
