Morning Train to Jefferson City:
This has been an eventful week.  Things went calmly and as expected up through Tuesday.  We all, here in Kansas City, awoke to the beginnings of an ice storm on Wednesday morning. The weather forcast was not good. We were expected to have ice, rain and snow in mixed amounts for the next couple of days. The combination of which would make travel very difficult. As the day progressed the weather got worse. the precipitation would fluctuate between sleet and rain with a little snow thrown in for good measure. By 2:00p.m. everyone was beginning to get concerned. Shortly there after the university decided to cancel all evening courses about that time the staff also began to trickle out to get home before it got to bad. I ended up staying until 4:30 knowing that I lived close, was going to walk home and that no matter how bad the weather would be I would be alright. Once I got home it became obvious that the city was in for a big one. The trees, power lines and streets were getting covered with ice causing power outages and accidents throughout the city.  I got things organized at home just waiting for the power to go out in my building. I started out watching television but as the evening wore on I got more interested in watching the light show outside my window. I turned the TV and all of the lights out and just watched the sparks fly and the blue glow of the sky as transformers blew all over town. The newsmen announced all evening that unless it was an emergency we should all stay inside. That to travel out was to put your life in your own hands. I already had plans to be off the next day and knew that there was no-way that the university was going to be open. So I had stayed up pretty late.  By about midnight I was getting stir crazy and needed to get out. I doubted that things would be as dangerous as the media was saying if I was just going a few blocks and traveling on foot. So I decided to go up to the local convenience store. In the end I was surprised and how serine and quiet it was.  The ice covering the trees was beautiful, there was little to no traffic and the walk there was easy.  I made sure to not walk under any of the trees. On the way I saw several trees loose branches and could see transformers blowing in the distance.
