| Morning Train to Jefferson City: Once I got home I soon there after went to bed knowing that though I was off the next day for dental apointments the school would be closed also. I was rudely awakened the next morning by my boss wandering why I was not at the office. I reminded her that I was off. She lives out in one of the eastern suberbs and was unable to get into the office and asked if I would have time to go in just long enough to change the messages on the univeristy phone system announcing that school would be closed. Shortly there after I got a call from my dentist to let me know taht my first appointment would need to be rescheduled but the second apt. was still on. So I got up earlier than I had planned and went in for a couple of hours. While there I got a call from Charles asking if he could come to my place to shower as his house was out of power. I went back to the house to meet him and head out to the dentist. I left him at the house to clean up and headed to the dentist. Fortunately his office is fairly close so walked up there. Once there the receptionist appologized saying that they had left me a voicemail at the office to let me know that the second appointment had to be canceled as well because so little of the staff had been able to get in. So I tredged back to the appartment but ended up missing Charles. So I just spent the rest of the day at home doing much of nothing. The weather was beginning to improve by the time I left for work on Friday morning but things were still fairly bad. the trees were all covered with ice and a good number of them had lost branches. There were even several that had completely fallen over because of the extra weight. Walking to the office was an adventure trying to avoid the limbs at least I didn't have to dodge any fallen power lines. Once at work I spent the day answering calls regarding the cancelation of all classes again and calls from concerned parents from other cities. All in all when things were added up over 350,000 households had lost power and the city was pretty much closed down. As I said classes were canceled and a good number of the staff didn't make it in. I had plans to head out of town on Saturday so I too left the office early. |
