| This past weekend was very busy and good. I started Friday by staying home reading and doing some light cleaning. I originally planned to go to what used to be called "Sprint Fridays" at the Nelson Museum of Art. "Sprint Fridays is dinner and music usually classical or jazz in the court yard cafe. You have a very nice dinner and music and then spend time looking at the newest additions to the Museum. But I decided to hold off on doing that because the rest of my weekend was going to be busy. On to the weekend itself. Saturday was major house cleaning. I wasn't able to get as much accomplished as I had hoped because I left my asthma meds at work and would get short of breath very easily. I did manage to get five loads of laundry washed and folded and the house cleaned in general . I was running a little late and decided to not take an additional shower before dressing to await Alma, Andy, Charles and David who were going to join me for dinner and an opera. We started with dinner at Fondizis a really nice restaurant on the Plaza. One I have gone past for years and never had the chance to eat at. It was as good as I had hoped it would be. Unfortunately we had not allocated enough time and had to rush through dinner. Next time we go there we will have to plan on spending more time and actually enjoy our food. We then went over to UMKC's Conservatory of Music for the Opera. It wasn't one that I knew and was in German. I must admit that I have never liked Opera in German. It is not a language that lends itself to Opera the way Italian or French does. Though I wasn't especially appreciative of the language it was in the opera itself was interesting. I was particularly impressed with the staging. The story involved an opera in an opera. So it was staged with the real audience looking on the opera from back stage and the audience in the opera sitting at the back of our stage so that the actors in our opera had to play both to use and the on-stage audience. It was very fun to watch. After the opera the others went out to a club to hear David sing and I went home. I wasn't feeling all that well. Sunday started bright and early David came over and we went to breakfast. I was feeling much better and enjoyed some time alone w/ him just talking. We went from breakfast on to the symphony. We have season tickets for the Sunday matinee and go about once a month. After a heavy breakfast, which we had attempted to avoid, and with the warmth of the theater and the beautiful music both David and I almost fell asleep in the first half of the concert. At Intermission we got a couple of cokes and stood outside in the brisk air to revive. We went back in with the expectation that it would be more of the same. When we returned for the second half, which was "The Seven Deadly Sins" it was not more of the quite relaxing classical music but more of last night. More Opera in German. This time it was truly good and entertaining. The story was of a woman from Louisiana on the Mississippi who goes out into the big world to make her fortune so she can send money home to help her family. If the singing and story hadn't been funny in it self then the fact that this woman singing in German would occasionally through in the English (American) words Louisiana and Mississippi would have been in and of itself. It was a perfect cap to the weekend. After the concert David and I parted ways and I went home to read, clean and call my sister Ellen. Our conversation was cut short by Alexis who had fallen and need comforting. I wanted to talk w/ her but she was not in the mood to talk w/ anyone. Three is such a great age. I am truly looking forward to Charles' and my trip to St. Louis for the holidays. The rest of the weekend was anticlimatic. Just time at home cleaning, reading and preparing for Monday's work and dental apt. ciao |
