Lesson # 142136

I am going to make this short.  I haven't been keeping up with this journal  as much as I had been.  I hope at some point to go back and fill in the blanks.  For now I will just discribe my week and weekend.
Last week was just a continuation of my training of our work studies.  I takes almost as much time to train new staff as it would to do the job yourself. But I do recoconize the fact that once they are trained they will be a big help.

Charles flew to Chicago to see Brian for the weekend. His birthday was last week and for his gift I paid for the flight.  He left on Thursday and came back on Sunday.

My brother Billy Joe and his new wife were in town for the weekend.  We kept missing each other but finally got together for lunch on Saturday.  It had been sometime since either of them had spent time in KC and they didn't have a clue as to where they wanted to eat or what they wanted to do.  So I took them to get bar-b-que and then we went to the Nelson Art Galleryfor the afternoon.  If the weather had been nice I would have taken them to walk the plaza but as it was (cool and dreary) we spent the afternoon looking through the Nelson.  We only had a couple of hours to spend there but they both enjoyed it.  Neither had been before and both thought it was an excellent museum. I must admit that I am rather proud of the collection myself.  What it may lack in depth it makes up for in breath.  All in all we had a good day. We ended it by going back to my place and spending some time just talking.  This is the first real conversation that I have ever had with BillyJoe.  though we have little in common we got along very well.  We come from two completely different worlds.  He just turned 52 and grew up in a time before integration, a time when our parents were struggling financially and a time when our family lived in a rougher environment.  By the time my generation came along. We lived in a mixed neighborhood, went to mixed schools and in general expectations had rison. To add to the mix I have always been more bookish with many of the qualities that implies.  I am not expressing my self here very well, let me just end it by saying that though we are quite different we both seemed to enjoy the time together.

Normally for me that would have been a full and fulfilling day but in the middle of it I got a call from David to remind me that we had planned to go to a Spanish guitar concert that night.  Well I had forgotten all about it and had not gotten the tickets.  When I checked they were all sold out.  We ended up at Barns and Nobles for a couple of hours.  Walking the Plaza  Art Fair for an hour or so in the cold and rain and then going to a coffee house and sitting and talking until 1:00 am.  In the course of the conversation we decided to go to the ren-fest. on Sunday.
