This weekend started on a good note. I saw my professor on Friday morning. He stopped by my office to say I and to let me know that I got an A- on my exam. Well I didn't go to the melodrama this weekend. I will be out of town for a conference all next week and don't think I will be up to organizing the outing for the following weekend so I will have to try some other time. I did go to see the movie Gladiator on Sunday w/ Andy, When he and Charles were a couple there was a time when going to the Sunday matinee was something we did on a regular basis. I think we all enjoyed it, it often was the only time we all saw each other and was a good consistent way to keep up with each others lives. Well it appears that it will be semi-regular with him and I as well. We sometimes go the whole week without really talking and dinner and a movie gives us a chance to catch up. Charles and I manage to see each other sometime during the week and keep up that way.
The movie itself was quite good. The cinematography both real and generated was very good and fairly believable. I do think though that even though it is often said that you can't tell the computer generated from the real you really can.
This is well worth seeing. They have been saying that it is a good date movie I'm not sure I would go that far. The romantic story is fairly thin but it is there. The story between the two antagonists is more central.
Historically speaking I don't know how accurite this picture trys to be throughout it you get small glimpses of roman life but the story is presented to you as if you pretty much know about roman life which in a way is better than if they spent the time lecturing you about it.
This movie is well worth watching, if you like movies about ancient warriers it is worth seeing at the theater. If that isn't really your cup of tea than it is at least worth a rental. |
