Lesson # 14093
The past week  or so was quite interesting.  I realize it has been a couple of weeks since I wrote in this journal.  I plan to start with the events of last week and then move backward.  After I finish I may rearange the entry/s.
Last week I was in Omaha Neb. for a conference.  The subject of the converence itself will bore you if you are not in higher education but let me say that it was well organized and went very well.  Normally, at these things, the meetings are crammed in so close together that you don't really have time to breath.  This conference was set up with meditaiton time between the meetings and with just two long meetings a day, so that you not only had time to contemplate the ramifications of the lectures and meetings but also had time to eat and relax between sessions.  One day several of us took time to go to a shoping area that I had been to before and which I find to be the hightlight to any visit to Omaha.
The Old Market is a beatiful old shoping area in what I believe is the oldest part of the city. It has beatiful old brick buildings and streets with a graet collection of unique shops. We underestimated the time it would take to get there so we didn't get to spend much time looking around.  Having been there before I knew which shops to head for right away.  I also had anticipated going to "The Market" while in town and had hoped to pick up some specific things while there.  One shop I really liked carried Mezuzah.I went in to get a new one and realized that I already have one for each of my doors and didn't need a new one.  So  I just looked around real quick and left. Little did I know that someone would steal mine right off my front door while I was gone. An act that I find hard to understand.  Whoever it was took the case holding scripture but left the bracket which is beautifully hand pounded brass scrollwork. The tube they took is just a glass tube containing the scriptures with a tooled brass top.

The conference lasted the better part of the week and I enjoyed meeting people from other Universities and seeing how our schools compared.  I also roomed with a biology professor that I have always liked and with the universities chief financial officer. When ever you room with someone you work with, away from work, you get a different perspective on them as a coworker and as a person.  Forturnately  I already new and liked both of the guys I was paired with.  I also made a point to spend time with people from the university whom I didn't know and also with people from different universites so that i can have a contact at other midwestern universites in the furture.  this ended up beeing a week well spent.  Back home we returned on a Thursday and I went ahead and took off Friday to recoup. and still have free time on the weeked. I had forgotten that  Monday was Memorial day so I ended up having a four day weekend. - I am not complaining.
