Chakras

Doing some research on Chakras, I have found much information. There are 7 major Chakras that are most talked about. Many believe there to be 12 up to 20 major chakras.

The word chakra is Sanskrit for wheel or disk and signifies one of seven basic energy centers in the body. Each of these centers correlates to major nerve ganglia branching forth from the spinal column. In addition the chakras also correlate to levels of consciousness, archetypal elements, developmental stages of life, colors, sounds, body functions, and much more.

I will first list and talk about the 7 chakras located on the Kundalini line or Sushumna, the physical body aura. The 7th chakra is a one sided funnel facing the Sky. Chakras 2-6 are two sided funnels, facing out the front of our bodies, and then facing out the back of our bodies. The 1st chakra is a one sided funnel facing the Earth.

1- Root Chakra (Muladhara), located at the base of the spine. The color of this chakra is red, has a physical identity and oriented to self-preservation. This chakra's central issues are survival, identityand grounding. Goals would be stability, grounding, physical health and prosperity trust. Root Chakra's element is Earth. Physically the Root Chakra rules the lymph system, skeleton system (teeth and bones), the prostate gland in men, the sacral plexus, the bladder and elimination system, and the lower extremities (legs - feet, ankles , etc.). Parts of the consciousness associated with this chakra include security, survival, trust, the relationship with money, home, job. Ability to be grounded, to be present in the here and now. Ability to allow one's self to be nourished, in the sense of allowing one's Inner Being to be satisfied. This chakra also reflects a person's connection with Mother Earth. How the person feels about being on the Earth. Connection with the physical body. The trickster for this chakra is fear (comes when one's survival is threatened). Ideally this chakra brings us health, prosperity, security, and dynamic presence.

2- Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana), located at the abdomen. The color of this chakra is orange, has an emotional identity, and oriented to self-gratification. This chakra's central issues are sexuality, emotions and desire. Goals would be fluidity, pleasure, healthy sexuality, and feeling. Sacral Chakra's element is Water. Physically the Sacral chakra rules the reproductive system, sexual organs, and lumbar plexus. Parts of the consciousness associated with this chakra are primarily food and sex. It is about the body's communication to the Being inside, about what the body wants and needs, and what it finds pleasurable. Ones ability to have children. This chakra is also associated with the emotional body, and the person's willingness to feel their emotions. The trickster for this chakra is guilt (keeping us from reaching out, hindering emotional and sexual ties with others). Ideally this chakra brings us fluidity and grace, depth of feeling, sexual fulfillment, and the ability to accept change.

3- Solar Plexus Chakra (Manipura), located at the solar plexus (above the naval). The color of this chakra is yellow, has an ego identity, and oriented to self-definition. This chakra's central issues are power and will. Goals would be Vitality, spontaneity, strength of will, purpose, and self-esteem. Solar Plexus Chakra's element is Fire. Physically the Solar Plexus Chakra is associated with the muscular system, the skin as a system, the solar plexus, the large intestine, stomach, liver, and other organs and glands in the region of the solar plexus. Parts of the consciousness associated with this chakra include perceptions concerned with power, control, freedom, the ease with which one is able to be themselves - ease of being. Mental activity and the mental body. The solar plexus chakra is also associated with the level of being we call the personality, or ego. The trickster for this chakra is shame (hindering spontaneity, self-esteem, and personal power). When healthy, this chakra brings us energy, effectiveness, spontaneity, and non-dominating power.

4- Heart Chakra (Anahata), located in the heart area. The color of this chakra is green, has a social identity, and oriented to self-acceptance. This chakra's central issues are balance, compassion, self-acceptance, and good relationships. Heart Chakra's element is Air. Physically the Heart Chakra is associated with the heart and the blood circulatory system, and the cardiac plexus, as well as the lungs and the entire chest area. Parts of the consciousness associated with this chakra include perceptions of love, relationships (relating) with people close to your heart, i.e. partner, siblings, parents, children. The trickster for this chakra is grief (hindering the love and lightness of the heart, leaving a heavy burden on one's self). A healthy fourth chakra allows us to love deeply, feel compassion, have a deep sense of peace and centeredness.

5- Throat Chakra (Visshudha), located at the throat. The color of this chakra is blue, has a creative identity, and oriented to self-expression. This chakra's central issues are clear communication, creativity, and resonance. Throat Chakra's element is Sound. Physically the Throat chakra is associated with the throat and the neck, the arms and the hands, as well as the brachial or cervical plexus. Parts of the consciousness associated with this chakra include the aspects of expressing and receiving. Expressing can be in the form of communicating what one wants and what one feels, or it can be an artistic expression, using a form for expressing and bringing to the outside what was within. This chakra is also associated with listening to one's intuition, which guides one in an optimal flow, in which one sees their goals manifest. It seems that the Universe provides all their needs with no effort on their part at all. The trickster for this chakra is lies (misinformation hinders our relationship with the world). Through this chakra we experience the world symbolically through vibration, such as the vibration of sound representing language.

6- Brow Chakra (Ajna), located at your 'third eye', center of your forehead just above your brow. The color of this chakra is indigo, has an archetypal identity, and oriented to self-reflection. This chakra's central issues are psychic perception, accurate interpretation, imagination, and clear seeing. Physically the Brow Chakra is associated with the forehead and temples, with the carotid plexus. Parts of the consciousness associated with this chakra include the deep inner level of being we call the Spirit, spirituality and the spiritual perspective, the point of view from that deeper part of our being that western traditions consider the subconscious or unconscious. It is the place where our true motivations are found, and is the level of consciousness that directs our actions and, our lives. The trickster for this chakra is illusion (looking at things incorrectly, seeing only what one wants to see, hindering ones perception). When healthy it allows us to see clearly, in effect, letting us see "the big picture".

7- Crown Chakra (Sahasrara), located at the top of the head. The color of this chakra is violet, has a universal identity, and oriented to self-knowledge. This chakra's central issues are wisdom, knowledge, and consciousness. Physically the Crown chakra is associated with the top of the head, the brain, and the entire nervous system. Parts of the consciousness associated with this chakra include perceptions of unity or separation. Just as the Root Chakra showed our connection with Mother Earth, this chakra shows our relationship with God. It's the level of the soul. The trickster(although tricksters do hinder the operations of the chakras, they generally do so to teach us something) for this chakra is attachment(holding on to the pointless, being narrow-minded, hindering our relationship with the divine). When developed, this chakra brings us knowledge, wisdom, understanding, spiritual connection, and bliss.

There are believed to be 5 to 7 chakras located above the head, and one to seven beneath our feet, not to mention hundreds located on or around various parts of our body. I will list the names and locations of some that I have come across in my research.

Below the Root chakra:
-Pireneum chakra, located at the pereneum. Transcendence of the physical.
-Movement chakras, located at both knees. Ones progress of lifes path.
-Grounding chakras, located at both feet. Connection between the physical and the Earth.
-Earth chakra, located below the feet. Ones connection with the Earth.
With the feet there are believed to be 7 minor chakras, located at the tip of each toe, heal and center of foot. There is also one located at the ankle.

Above the Root chakra:
-Hara chakra, located at the abdomen, above the Root chakra. Lifes purpose.
-Diaphragm chakra, located at the base of the ribcage. Cleansing and change.
-Thymus chakra, located below the throat. Immunity and protection.
-Vision chakras, located in the pupils of eyes. Laser healing.
Some very important chakras to be noted as well are in the hands. There are believed to be 7 minor chakras here. At the tip of each finger, the palm, and the wrist. These charkras are used in healing with ones hands. The energy flow through these chakras, according to my research, goes in the less used hand (left hand, if you are right-handed...reversed if left-handed) and out the most used hand (right if you are right-handed...reversed if left-handed).

Above the Crown chakra:
-Transpersonal point, located above the head. Connection with the Universe.
-Grid work, located towards the moon. Connects with Earth grid, caretaker of planet.
-Solar system access. Access to information of the solar system.
-Galactic access. Access to information of Earths Galaxy.
-The Universe. Access to deep space and the universe.

I have mainly worked with the 7 Kundalini chakras, and have recently begun working with my hand and feet chakras.
If a chakra is unbalanced and/or not clear, one may notice that the physical/emotional area associated with that chakra may be affected. Therefore one needs to clear and/or balance that chakra.
There are many cleansing and balancing techniques out there. Many of them use crystals and gemstones. Below I will talk about a technique I use to clear and balance my chakras. You may only notice minor differences at first. The more you practice these exercises the more difference you will feel. Negative energy (which is just about everywhere) can cause your chakras to be unbalanced, causing you to feel 'off', so one should clear and balance their chakras often or whenever they get this feeling. I ground and shield first, before doing any exercise.

-Centering Chakras (clearing, opening and balancing of chakras)-
Starting with the first chakra, breath in slowly through your nose and mentally stir its funnel-mouth quickly clockwise with a mental finger while visualizing your aura filling and being infused with bright red. Breathing out any excess color, out through your mouth, into the world around you. Continue on the first chakra until you feel your aura is red enough. Then move up to your second chakra. Stir both aspects (front and back funnels) quickly as you breathe in and fill your aura with a solid orange color, adding it to the red of the first chakra. Breathe any excess color out through your mouth. Continue until you feel your aura is orange enough. Now move up to your third chakra. Stir both aspects quickly as you breathe in and fill you aura with a solid yellow color, adding it to the orange of the second chakra. Breathe any excess color out through your mouth. Continue this until you feel your aura is yellow enough. Then move up to your fourth chakra. Stir both aspects quickly as you breathe in and fill you aura with a green color, adding it to the yellow of the third chakra. Breathe any excess color out through your mouth. Continue this until you feel your aura is green enough. Now move up to your fifth chakra. Stir both aspects quickly as you breathe in and fill you aura with a blue color, adding it to the green of the fourth chakra. Breathe any excess color out through your mouth. Continue this until you feel your aura is blue enough. Then move up to your sixth chakra. Stir both aspects quickly as you breathe in and fill you aura with an indigo color, adding it to the blue of the fifth chakra. Breathe any excess color out through your mouth. Continue this until you feel your aura is indigo enough. Now move up to your seventh chakra. Stir quickly as you breathe in and fill you aura with a violet color, adding it to the indigo of the sixth chakra. Breathe any excess color out through your mouth. Continue this until you feel your aura is violet enough. Now visualize that you achieved a sense of mental balance, holding each and all chakras in their open, spinning, colorful state. Your aura suffused with all the colors, and slowly open your eyes and look around through this heightened state of calm. You may find that your posture improves for quite some time after this exercise. You should feel balanced and centered.
To clear and balance your hand and feet chakras you may either wash them in salt water or cleanse them with white light. To cleanse them with white light invision white light around your hands/feet. Allow the white light to incircle each finger/toe, and continue on to your palm/heal then onto your wrist/ankle. As the white light cleanses your chakras, invision negative energy being 'washed' away. I prefer to use white light cleansing.

If this exercise doesn't work for you, you can find many different exercises and/or meditations, to help balance and cleanse your chakras, on the Internet or in books on Chakras. I have listed the sites I used in my research below. You may find different exercises and information at these sites. Or you can do your own search. If I find another exercise I really enjoy, I will add it at a later time. :)
