THE ORIGINS OF THE NORTH AMERICAN LEGEND
(The scene opens up inside a gym where we see Scott "The Boy" Hellings.
He is working out with a set of weights when a large, imposing man
who is at least twice as big as The Boy comes over to him.)
MAN-
"Hey man, can you spot me for a minute?"
HELLINGS-
"Oh I get it. Relax, you don't need a lame excuse like that, just come
out and ask. You're in luck though, because I just happen to keep some photos of myself
in my gym bag, I can go get them and sign them for you. Who should I make it out to?"
MAN-
"What? No I was really looking for someone to spot me."
HELLINGS-
"You really have no idea who I am?"
MAN-
"No."
HELLINGS-
"Oh. (The Boy seems shocked.) well don't worry-you will soon enough."
MAN-
"Whatever. Can you just shut up and spot me?"
HELLINGS-
"Hey look here buddy..."
(The much larger man glares at Hellings, who immediately backs down.)
HELLINGS-
"Just kidding pal! I'd be honoured to lend a hand."
(They walk over to the bench press, where the man has added several hundred
pounds of weights onto the bar. The Boy appears unimpressed.)
HELLINGS-
"That's it? You should really be ashamed. I was doing that much when I was fourteen!"
MAN-
"Man shut the hell up and spot me!"
HELLINGS-
"Okay, (Pointing to the man on the bench) there you are! I spotted you! So I guess it's your turn
to find me now."
(The Boy begins to laugh and the man just scours at Hellings, who immediately stops laughing.)
HELLINGS-
"You know you really need to lighten up. (The Boy mutters under his breath) Laying off the 'roids would help
that rage problem."
MAN-
"What was that?"
HELLINGS-
"Oh nothing. Enought talk, let's do this."
(The man begins to lift the weight, struggling. Hellings looks bored with the whole ordeal, as he spots for the man. Just as the man
finally lifts the weight, a cell phone is heard ringing, playing The Boy's theme song, "Why I Bother" by Tupelo Honey.)
HELLINGS-
"Excuse me for a moment."
(The Boy answers his phone as the man drops all the weight down onto him, nearly crushing him. Hellings walks away, seemingly unaware as several gym patrons
rush over to help the crushed man.)
HELLINGS-
"Dave? Is that you? I'm glad you finally got back to me. Where were you?...What do you mean you have other clients? See, that's the problem Dave, you need to
realize that the only client worth mentioning is me, The Boy. You're wasting your time on those losers and in the meantime I'm walking around here with people not knowing who I am.
That's not right Dave and you know it! I shouldn't be able to go anywhere without being mobbed and it's your job
as my agent to ensure that that happens! What am I paying you for?...What do you mean I owe you money? You're walking a very fine line here Dave! Now listen, I wanted to let you know
that I need you to book me some more time in the studio because I am going to need some more promo shots....Well I'm going to need some new pictures with the United States title after I beat
David Lee at Overdrive this weekend!...What do you mean you didn't realize I had a match? You know I'm beginning to think that
you just might be the worst agent ever! Here I was going to thank you for working the phone lines and ensuring I get a spot in the main event this weekend, and you had nothing to do with it! That's okay though, because I'm sure
the suits in the NSW offices know their stuff and they recognized they need star power for their first show. They knew that they needed an amazing
first-ever main event and who better to have that opportunity than me, The Boy?...What do you mean you're a fan of Bill Dynamite? You are this close to getting fired Dave! No, NSW realized they
needed the Nielsen's favourite son, The Boy, in their first main event in order to gain a HUGE following and that is why I am the one headlining the show and not some loser like Bill Dynamite or David Lee...Okay, yes I realize that technically there is a second
person in the main also headlining Overdrive, but we all know that in reality this is my show Dave. The spotlight is going to be firmly fixed on me, where it belongs."
(Just then No Surrender Wrestling interviewer J. C. Hogan shows up with a microphone in hand. The Boy pauses and looks at Hogan before continuing on with his
phone call.)
HELLINGS-
"Sorry Dave, it looks like we're going to need to cut this a bit short, since some idiot with a microphone
is here...I don't know who he is, but that's not my job. He's supposed to know who I am, but I don't care
who he is. I can get away with that, I'm an important person. But just remember to book that studio time, but be sure to book it for sometime next week AFTER I've won
the United States title...Of course I'm going to win! After all I am The Boy and that means I am The Best! Oh, and this time I'm going to need even more photos because once I'm the champion even more people will want my picture than ever before. I will have even
more fans, more Boy Scouts who will step over their own mothers just to get my autograph! And be prepared Dave because after I win the match I'll be in high demand so I'm sure your phone will be ringing off
the hook, with all sorts of offers rolling in. If-what am I saying if? WHEN Hollywood calls looking for The Boy, be sure to let them know that I will only do nudity if it is done tastefully
and if it furthers the plot. Besides, it will make all of the ladies dreams come true by giving them a chance to gaze upon my chiseled, god-like physique. Alright? Later Dave."
(The Boy hangs up the phone and turns to Hogan)
HELLINGS-
"What do you want?"
HELLINGS-
"I wanted to ask you a few questions about your upcoming match with David Lee. Were you at all
surprised that you were given a shot at the United States Title so soon?"
HELLINGS-
"Surprised? Wait a second...I recognize you now. You're J. C. Hogan. Wow, I used to watch you as a kid, thinking to myself that I never want to be as bad as something as you were at wrestling. So am I surprised you ask? I'm surprised that a second-rate wrestler like yourself could get-and this is even more baffling-maintain a job as a
second-rate interviewer. But surprised that I'm given a United States title shot? Of course not! I've been trying to
tell people that it is only a matter of time before I am at the top of the mountain in No Surrender Wrestling. This is
just the beginning. You know what would surprise me? If David Lee even bothered to show up at Overdrive. He should just take
the hint and know that I am walking out of there as the first-ever NSW United States Champion! Why? Because I want to, because I can!
Now it doesn't matter that this is a ladder match, nor would it matter if it was a steel cage match, a best 2/3 falls match, or even a
weasel suit match! I would win because that is what I do. And this Sunday I am going to prove to the world that I truly am the marquee player, the franchise saviour and
the number one money maker!"
HOGAN-
"Well, I would have thought with your obvious ego that you would be upset that you were somehow overlooked
for the World title..."
HELLINGS-
"Ego? Ego?! You know what Hogan? You can afford to have an ego when you are the best at what you do. Believe me, they may call me The Boy, but there is no doubt
that I am The Man! And overlooked? I wasn't overlooked at all. I consider this a terrific opportunity. For starters, I get
to walk in and win the United States Championship. Me, The Canadian Legend as United States champ! You know what that will make me? That will make me like
the North American Legend! Pretty soon I'll be able to go down to Mexico, have a siesta, wrestle myself a luchadore, win a title there and dominate this whole freakin'
continent! And this is just a small step onto my path to success. From here I can then go on and win the No Surrender Championship and the World Title! I can own triple
gold! And that would be the type of recognition that someone as perfect as me deserves. So I wasn't overlooked. No, not at all.
Instead I was given a tremendous opportunity to prove myself to you and all of the NSW fans out there. Don't overlook me Hogan,
you won't live to regret it."
HOGAN-
"Are you sure your style is suited to a ladder match though? David Lee's style is more catered to this style of match. How will you prepare?"
HELLINGS-
"Prepare? I don't need to prepare for someone like David Lee. He calls himself the (making quotation marks with his fingers) 'ghetto saviour?' Gimme a break! What is that? Is that anything like that Ghetto Superstar ODB used to sing about? Well allow to explain to you that I am the one and only UBERstar! David Lee can throw nothing at me
that I can't handle. Besides, I've been in ladder matches before, heck I've won ladder matches before, so I know I have nothing to worry about. You shouldn't question my ability Hogan, but I understand why you do. You're just upset that you're a broken down
wrestler, longing for his glory days. And me? I haven't even hit my stride yet! You're just jealous and I can't blame you. If I were you, I'd want to be me too. But no one can be as good me Hogan. Not you, not David Lee, not anyone. And THAT is why I am walking out of Overdrive Sunday
as the United States Champion! Now you better get out of here, because you're really starting to annoy me."
(Hogan doesn't back down at first, Hellings rears back to hit him, when the man from before grabs his hand and spins Hellings around.)
MAN-
"You nearly crushed me, now I'm gonna have to kill you!"
(The man swings, but The Boy ducks it and gets behind his attacker, nailing him with The Good Deed onto the gym floor. Hogan runs off to get help, as Hellings stares at the man for a moment, smirking. He then looks into the camera intently.)
HELLINGS-
"This Sunday, I begin my quest to prove to everyone just how good I am. At Overdrive I'm going to take my place in history as not only the first-ever United States champion, but the first-ever champion crowned in all of
No Surrender Wrestling period! We can do this the easy way or the hard way Lee. If you bother showing up at Overdrive, then I guess we'll be doing it the hard way. That's fine, it's your funeral. It doesn't matter because I am walking
out the United States Champion! I know it, you know it, the whole damn world knows it!"
(The Boy walks off to the showers, leaving his victim behind as the scene fades to black.)
