o Does college have internet connectivity at this time ?
Yes indeed. Refer to information in "Infrastructure" section.
o Why this efforts to raise funds?
Well, current connectivity is too slow to be useful and��� has very limited usage capabilities.
o Which type connectivity are we targetting ?
Our preliminary survey indicates that 64-KBPS link costs roughly� Rs. 4,00,000 (after 50% discount for educational institutions). This includes one-time� installation charges and one year subscription and other� set-up and testing charges.
o Well, are we not thinking of providing software, books ?
While providing these resources as suggested by some
is useful and perhaps easy, we thought it's absolute necessary to have internet connectivity in this world to keep abreast with latest technologies. Moreover college feels the urge to have better connectivity.
o How can I make sure that my contributions are getting used for right purposes ?
Right now, there's no formal fund account. However, we are is in touch with college to figure out the adminstrative details of this. College is working on� setting up GECA Alumni association, a formal body to enable accepting funds. So presently core team can be contacted at the email address specified on this page to know the ways you can contribute and where to send your contributions.
This effort is commited to "Donating the resource - Improved Internet connectivity" to college and not to donate "Contribution Money".
o What about folks in India who are willing to help ?
Core team is working out details with some folks in India to find out volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering to co-ordinate please contact us. As soon as we have more details we will post those here.
o How much can I contribute ?
We are looking for contributions $50 or more from GECA Alumni in the USA and rest of the world and Rs. 1000 or more in India.
0 How did we arrive at this number ?
At the forefront, it is easy for most of us to contribute this amount without too much of a hassle, but more importantly given the connectivity terrif, we need to gather $5000 at the least to be able to help college substantially. It's more achievable with all alumni help.
o We provide connectivity, what next ? What about maintainence and ongoing subscriptions.
We are trying to sort these issues out with college at this time. We definitely want to make sure that our contribution brings value to current college infrastructure now and remains valuable forever.
