Episode 33: Mainstream
Guest Review By: Joe

Introducing: No one

The Gist of It: Some intruders are outside of the mansion, the time is about Midnight-3AM. Inside the mansion Kitty is walking through a hallway and she goes to the kitchen, startes eating a slice of pizza and drinking milk out of the carton until Kurt kind of pops in and catches her, saying he knew she was doing it. She makes an excuse up, saying she was going to drink the whole thing but Kurt just laughs and tells her there's half a gallon left, drink up. She interrupts him saying that there's intruders on the security screen in front of her but behind him, he turns around and sees them too. They decide to scare them off before they hit an alarm and wake everyone in the mansion up. They go outside and see 3 guys wearing masks, it cuts to the credits.

Back where we left off, Kitty is still startled at seeing them but Kurt teleports behind them and does a sort of jumping tackle taking them all down, a little fight scene goes here (very little) where Kurt/Kitty come out victorious. Kurt rips their masks off and exposes their identities, a few football players (you may have recognized them from the very first Evolution episode). Kitty spots spraypaint on the ground and looks behind her, the wall she phased through when firts confronting them was vandalized with a little amateur art of the X-Men, including words such as "freak". The football players all run off while yelling behind them freaks. Kitty spits out some line about how it was so much easier when only the Brotherhood hated them.

It's daytime now, Jubilee's parents are loading her luggage into the back of the car. Wolverine says that Rayne has left and now Jubilee is, claiming that it's pointless to be taking them home - they won't be any safer there. Charles replies that he would do the same thing, for he promised the parents that he'd give their child protection. They blame themselves saying it's their fault, how Wolverine should have smelled Mystique and Charles says he should have sensed her, but her morphing powers are so advanced that she's able to hide herself from anyone (guess she still has her update from The Cauldron).

At some underground area (the temporary sleeping quarters) everyone is waking up, an announcment from the Professor says that the younger children will be eating first and the main team will be having a meeting. Rogue complains a little about it being cramped, she can't wait until the upper mansion is rebuilt.

In the meeting Xavier has good news, Bayville high will allow them to go to school for the day provided they don't use their powers - they'll make a vote about letting the X-Men stay the following day. Kitty is a little scared to go back, Evan is mad that on the newspaper they're still being called monsters and Kurt realizes that no one has found his true identity yet - but gets depressed when Scott tells him there's no point in hiding, people will figure it out once they realize he too lives at the mansion. Charles just tells them to make a good impression.

They're at their first exposed day at school, doing the classic everyone stares while muttering to themselves as they approach the main building. Scott practically has to physically restrain Evan because Evan was getting upset at the freak remarks, and Kitty realizes that Kurt is nowhere to be seen. She spots him a couple seconds later about 20 feet back, he ditched the group so people wouldn't think he's a mutant. As Scott goes up the steps he looks over at Tayrn, she just gives him the cold shoulder. Duncan runs up to Jean saying that he's OK with her "problem", this upsets her and he says it would be great for cheating on tests. She gets mad and says their relationship is over. Principle Kelly gives a little evil look from his car.

In the halls Jean apologizes to Scott for dragging him into the dispute she had with Duncan, he says it's ok - that's what friends are for. They look a little reluctant to part from each other.

Wolverine is riding on his motorcycle when a motorcycle rider next to him shows him his metal hand, Wolverine starts pursuing him when metal-hand-man knocks a truck over by punching it, Wolverine jumps the truck and continues the chase.

In the Brotherhood house Blob/Toad are teasing Lance about screwing things up with Kitty, he gets mad and starts shaking things up until there's a knock at the door. It's principle Kelly asking if they want to come back to school, he'll make sure they''ll be welcomed.

Kurt is at his locker looking very social, greeting a kid opening his next to him. Amanda runs up hugging Kurt, happy to see him and when she starts to ask him how things are going he changes the subject and starts walking quickly away from public with her. She's curious on what's going on, he just says that he's not ready to be exposed and she's suprised that no one knows. She's upset he's still hiding, he just tells her that being normal is the best thing ever but she replies that standing by his friends are more important, he just argues that they're fine.

It immediately skips to outside where Scott is shoved into an announcement board by Duncan. Duncan teases Scott, trying to get him to use his powers so Duncan could get him expelled, Scott sort of starts walking away until Duncan throws Scott into his two buddies, they hold him down while Duncan takes his glasses off and puts them on, taunting him. When one of them try to throw him to the ground Scott reverses it, throwing him into Duncan and doing a low spinning kick knocking the other down, Kurt is watching as this goes on. Kitty and Rogue approach for backup, but Duncan and his gang just walk away. Rogue retrieves his glasses putting them on him. Some idiot walks up to her asking if she can read his mind or something, she says "yeah right, like I could find it".

At Kurts vantage point two students approach him asking if he was from the mansion, he denies it when the student asks him if they're his friends, he says "used to be". When the students walk away Kurt realizes that Kitty and Rogue heard the whole thing, Kitty is pretty pissed asking "used to be?" but Kurt panicks and says "sorry, gotta go to class!".

Kelly tells his secratary to page Duncan, he saw the whole fight.

In a desolate location Wolverine spots a barn where Colossus must have run, he drives his cycle through and Colossus turns to metal inside and grabs his bike and throws it, making it explode but Wolverine had already jumped off.

In Kelly's office again, Kelly tells Duncan he saw the whole fight and Duncan just claims they were messing around, Kelly explains that he shouldn't be picking a fight with a mutant. Duncan claims he's not afraid of Scott but Kelly replies he should be, mutants stick together. Kelly spots Blob/Toad/Lance walking outside and says that they have something in common, they all hate Scott Summers. Duncan smiles :o

At the barn Wolverine throws Colossus through the wall, who proceeds to throw a Tractor and Wolvie until he dodges while cutting a wheel off and throwing it at him. Colossus claims that he has no choice but to work for Magneto and Wolverine invites him to join the X-Men, Colossus declines and walks away.

In the halls of Bayville The B.hood are making their big return, Lance picks a fight with the idiot we saw earlier but the idiot just runs away.

Jean is playing basketball in Gym and she steals a ball from a girl and sinks it, they accuse her of using her powers and the coach tells her to hit the bench. While sitting down she sees Kelly taking the trophies down and asks what he's doing, he says that they need to reconsider letting them keep the trophies, Kelly gets in an anti-mutant argument with her.

At the night meeting Xavier explains to Jean why she'll be speaking, they need a students point of view. As Scott/Evan/Kitty/Rogue approach the building Duncan drives up in his car blocking their path saying he wants Scott in one on one. When the rest of them refuse he says he knew they would, so he got backup... Which turns out to be the Brotherhood.

Kitty gets mad at Lance and he says he's just a thug, he was never good enough for her and she gets upset. He makes a tremor and everyone else charges at the X-Men, Duncan goes straight for Scott.

Jean makes a speech at the conferance sort of explaining "how would you want your child to be treated if he/she were a mutant?"

The fight continues with Scott dodging Duncans attacks then flipping him onto the back of a truck, cars flying everywhere, Toad slimes Rogue... Total mayhem.

Jean's speech continues until it's interrupted by the MPR being shaken up by Lance, everyone runs out and Kelly yells telling everyone this is why mutants can't attend their school. Charles interrupts explaining that the X-Men are holding their ground, not using their powers. A car is about to hit a husband/wife when Kurt finally reveals his powers teleporting them to safety. Kurt spikes a light post about to fall onto another group of people, Kitty phases Kelly through a car that was about to hit him.

The next morning things are looking pretty grim, everyone looks sad as they make their way to the meeting room. Charles says he's proud of them, and reveals they voted to let the X-Men back into school. Xavier gives a speech about how they should be a new hope for mutant kind, and this is a big step. Whatever gets in their way, they'll survive.
