Episode 45: No Good Deed

Introducing: Principal Kelly 2.0! Bigger, badder, and running for senator!

The Gist of It: The episode opens with the Brotherhood chillin' in the subway. Wanda growls as she looks at the headline of the newspaper, so Pietro yanks the paper away from its owner, crumples it up, and zips to her. She's rather miffed about Magneto spontaneously combusting, and about the X-Geeks not lifting a finger to help the dude out. Pietro tries to tell her that Magneto wasn't the father she thought he was (thanks to "The Toad, The Witch, and the Wardrobe"), but that just makes her angrier. And we all know what happens when Wanda gets angry. Wanda smash! Uh, in a sense. Anyway, thanks to her anger, Wanda's powers make the subway derail. Uh oh. Cue credits.

When we return from the credits, the X-Geeks hear about the subway problem and how the people are all trapped, and Scott assumes his most heroic pose and tells them that they must save the day.

Back in the city, those who got lucky run out of the subway and into the streets. Hi, Paul! I missed you! Back inside the subway, the BH is all "We're trapped!" and a highly freaked out Todd bounces around trying to kick the doors open. Freddy smashes through the walls from compartment to compartment, running past all of the cowering people in the train. Lance tells the people to follow him and such, assuming "Hero Mode" quite easily. Todd, meanwhile, spots a wallet on the ground and is all "W00t!" (uh, yeah, Todd's 133t >.>), but wallet's owner is all "You saved me! *cling!*" and generally frightens Todd with his clinginess. And so, Todd helps him out (whether he wanted to help him or not :D). Also, while Lance tries to get out, this little old cripple lady calls for help. So Lance, being a good boy (well, relatively good), picks up the old lady and begins to carry her out.

Outside, the people who were trapped run out of the subway and into the streets. Hi again, Paul! I don't care why you're shown running out twice because I missed you! Oh, yeah, and the X-Men show up at one point to stare at the going ons. Anyhow, the subway's about to explode, and Lance hasn't come out yet. Things start going boom, though, just as he carries the old lady out to safety, and all is well, no one was harmed.

Guy-Who-Todd-Saves clings to Todd quite comically and is all "You saaaved me!! How can I ever repay you?" And Todd holds up the wallet and says something like "Well, this'll do just fine," and I giggle. News guys start interviewing the Brotherhood, calling them heroes and whatnot. At first, they're like "Duh?" and seem confused, but they quickly take to the idea of being heroes and get all "Yes! We're great! We're the Brotherhood! *heroic gleam of teeth*" Meanwhile, Scott and the X-Geeks are standing there looking like somebody handed them a plate full of bull testicles. Mmm.

And now for some random stuff that's out of order! Back at the Institute, Scott bitches about the Brotherhood getting all of this attention for the subway situation. Shut up, Scott. On TV, Principal Kelly has an anti-mutant promo for his campaign, but it's cut into by a news report on the subway incident, and how the Brotherhood are heroes. Kelly's all "Grr! We must make the headlines read differently! Mutants are bad! Destroy all mutants! Destroy!" only, uh, not so much like that.

Back at the Brotherhood house, there's all these news people outside wanting to talk to "the girl" of the group. Wanda's feelin' pretty mopey, since she accidentally caused the accident, but Pietro's talking about how it's like a "don't ask, don't tell" situation, and how nobody knows she caused it. So, Wanda steps outside to speak to the reporters, but when somebody asks her what role she played in the rescue, she bolts back into the house. Pietro's all "Er, she's camera shy!" and then more people fawn over the Brotherhood. The old lady Lance saved presents them with a check for what looks like $10,000 and the boys stare at it, dumbfounded. Oh yeah, she also has her construction company come and make their house all purty again. Pietro realizes that this hero stuff is a potential goldmine, and proposes that they continue "saving the day" by causing problems then fixing them.

Cut to: "heroic montage!" Pietro easily peer-pressures Lance into making a gargoyle fall down towards some people, and Freddy saves them from being smooshed. Cut to an amusing scene of Pietro holding a bat and whacking a bee nest towards some little kids, who Todd saves. Lance makes a bus go wonky, and the Brotherhood save the day, etcetera. Also, we see the X-Geeks' horrified reactions.

Speaking of the X-Geeks, they bitch about the Brotherhood being more popular than them, and so we cut to a scene of Kurt spying on Lance and Co. driving the snazzy jeep. The BH boys listen to a radio announcement by Kelly, and they get a little pissy when he says they're prolly the cause of the accident. So, they go off to threaten Kelly into stop being such a prick about mutants and such. They're about to attack him, when Scott and the rest of the X-Geeks show up and be all... themselves. Lance is all ready with new, bad puns (how long has it been since he mentioned rocks? C'mon, Lance!), but Pietro would rather not get his ass handed to him at the moment, and tells 'em to retreat. And so, they do, but not after Todd gives the X-Geeks a very threatening raspberry.

Cut back to the BH House: Lance makes things shake, as he's quite pissed off. Pietro's more concerned with the fact that they've been bumped to the third page of the newspaper, and Todd's all "Ack! No! Not our fifteen minutes of fame!" Anyhow, Pietro plots on how to get back into the front page. He goes out to the porch to blather about how the X-Men are jerks and how they wanna see the BH go down in flames like Magneto did (which is true; they've been acting precisely like that the entire episode). This does not please Wanda.

Zoo. The next day. The Brotherhood cut the ribbon to the zoo and Pietro makes a little comment on how the X-Men are jealous of their fame and whatnot. The X-Geeks are there looking mighty cranky, prolly standing around to make sure the Brotherhood doesn't attack the innocent denizens of Bayville. Anyhow, Wanda shows up and wonkifies things with her powers. It's a pretty fun scene, but I don't feel like describing the whole thing. At one point, Kitty gets flung into the crocodile pit, and so Pyro comes and wrestles them into submission! Or not. That was a cheap shot. Actually, she tries to phase out of there, but Wanda makes her stuck in the glass, and Scott winds up blasting her out. Yeah. In the end, the X-Men are arrested for causing the mayhem, and the Brotherhood are still guilt-free.

In prison, the X-Geeks bitch about the situation, which is understandable, as I'd be pretty pissed off if I was arrested for no reason. Anyhow, we cut to a TV screen, where Todd is crying on the news about how criminals like the X-Men are bad 'n such. Heeheee. Todd watches from the BH's new big screen TV, and is all happy. Lance 'n Freddy think they should quit while they're ahead, but Todd is addicted to fame like a heroin addict is addicted to, y'know, that heroin stuff. Pietro suggests they go out with a bang and give the city the biggest, baddest disaster they'd ever seen.

And so, thanks to the Brotherhood, some train starts having issues and stuff happens. I missed a little bit of this because I was trying to finish up a paragraph from a previous scene, so I'm not sure what precisely happened, but in the end the Brotherhood create a situation they can't handle, and Pietro's like "Ohh, well, can't win 'em all!" and they leave in the jeep. Ha!! I loved that. Oh, but Lance stays behind because he probably feels guilty and must adhere to his heroic duty or something.

Anyhow, the X-Geeks are suddenly released from prison, as the city wants their help to stop the train from crashing and killing everybody. Sounds reasonable. The X-Geeks go off and do it. Arrive at the scene. Help people escape. Turn the train into a big fiery ball of destruction, blah blah, usual stuff. Jean tries to stop the big fiery ball of destruction from, y'know, destroying things (boy, you know who'd be useful right now? I'm not naming any names, but he does this thing... with the fire... and the cackling), but it's a bit much for her. But worry not! Lance saves the day with his rockin' powers (hehe, rock), and manages to encase the fire ball in rocky goodness. Before the X-Geeks can make any threatening remarks at him (and you know, given the opportunity, they would've), Lance is all "This is the last act of heroism from me," and saunters off.

So, there's a return to normalcy as the X-Geeks are the heroes again, and the Brotherhood are back to being the villains. The city investigates the recent accidents under the assumption that the Brotherhood did 'em. As a result, all of the shiny new things the BH got for their heroism are taken away. Todd's especially traumatized by this, as the repo men yoink his snazzy new TV. Once alone, Pietro says something I don't remember, but the end result is all of the boys glaring at him, and we hear his shrieks and various blasts coming from the house as the episode closes. Awww.

Brotherhood Moments: The WHOLE episode. And they were damn good moments, too. Damn good.

My Opinion: In stark contrast to the last episode, there wasn't a scene in this one that I didn't like! Okay, well, I didn't care about any of the X-Geek scenes, but at least they weren't painful to watch. Anyhow, I loved it. Looooved it. I loved Pietro in it, since he made some of the best faces ever and was being, well, Pietro-like. Loved Wanda for getting a bit more character development and for getting the X-Geeks arrested. Loved Todd because, well, c'mon, he just plain rocked in this ep! And of course there's my Lancey boy! Gooood Lance *pets him*. I thought his semi-heroism was very in character, both with the way he'd been presented in the show before, and with canon Avalanche. Oh yeah, and Freddy was... well, cool and Freddy. Yep! Too bad this snazzy ep is going to be followed up by one about... *sigh* X23. Which means more Logan. And the introduction of Omega Red (who looks funny! XD). There has been no love lost between me an' ol Omega Red.

Rating (out of 5): 5! Classic ep.
