Episode 16: Power Surge

Introducing: Hank McCoy/Beast

The Gist of It: Hm, I seem to have blocked most of this episode from my head. O.o Seriously, I can't really remember what happened... uh... Okay! Lessee if I can pull this outta my head!

The ep opens with the school in the auditorium, an assemply for how wonderful Jean is, apparently. (Yes, I sympathize with Rogue a LOT in this ep, despite my growing indifference towards her :D) However, maaaaajor spookiness arises for our... friend... Jean as she suddenly hears Rogue's thoughts. My guess is that she was surprised not because she heard Rogue's thoughts, but because she found out that there's at least one person in Bayville who doesn't see her as the second coming of Christ. ^_~ Anywho, she hears the thoughts of everyone, freaks out, then the voices stop and she's like "Haha, I'm perfect. Love me."

Yeah. Anyway, the assembly ends, and Lance runs up to Kitty to walk her to chemistry and be his usual cute self. Being smart (for once >.>), Kitty accepts Lance's offer rather than say something along the lines of "Like, ew, you're evil, go away!" Yay! And then Scott talks to Jean and she's like "Oh, it was nothing, let's go to Duncan's party tonight so you can see me act like a ho and throw you off a balcony with my powers!" Yeah.

Uh, then we see Kitty and Lance in chemistry, I think. He's joking with her, telling her about Freddy's "stink bombs" and then the new teacher Hank McCoy comes in and says "We're gonna make stink bombs!" or something like that after spouting out a poetic Hank-ish line! ;p

Okay, my memory's fading even more now. Uh, if I remember correctly, we get to cut to the Institute, where Scott's running about trying to get to the party. Various bad things happen to him on the way-- the kinds of things that Spooky or I would do to him in fics O.o-- but he eventually makes it to the party... uh... relatively unscathed. ^_~ What then ensues is a testosterone inspired battle of manliness between Scotty and Duncan, as they're both in love with stupid-head Jean. Rogue, in a really neat dress that I like, doesn't seem to be having a good time, and the ever observant Risty (the British chick who's sooooo slashy) points out that she has a crush on Scott. Rogue kinda denies it and they leave the party (to go to the Institute?).

Anyway. Uh. Scott and Duncan generally piss Jean off, she goes off with Duncan, hears thoughts again (though, she doesn't seem to be picking up any thoughts from Dunc. Hmm :P), runs off like a freak to where Scott is (the balcony) and he's like "Jean! Must save!" and... so she uses her powers to throw him off the balcony to his death. How nice. Well, okay, she regains control, holds him right above the pool he was about to fall him, only to drop him when Duncan comes outside to see what's wrong; thus making an ass of the poor guy.

So, they go home, where Rogue's showing Risty around and later gets berated for doing so without permission. Jean acts stupid. Chuck's like "Is there anything wrong?" and she's like "Nah, I'll be fine tomorrow."

Oh yeah, she's REAL fine tomorrow. Cut to the PE Class-- er, or the track team, I dunno... Anyway, they're running around outside, so you get to see general scenes of Jean acting perfect, and Scott and Duncan competing against each other. Then Duncan cheats (knocking Scott's sunglasses off in the process) and Hank (who's also the PE coach) tells him to go inside because he's off the team. Pooor old Duncan. As Hank helps Scott get his glasses back on, Jean freaks out again and starts making things fly randomly, firing a javelin towards Kitty and some track girls. Lance, being the awesome dude that he is, disrupts the ground so that the girls fall down and not get skewered! Ain't he nice? :D Personally, I think Jean was aiming at Lance, but her lapse of power made the pointy javelin go towards the girls. But, that's just me. :D

So, after freaking out and nearly killing people with her wonky powers, Scott and Kitty urgently rush her home, where they put her in a medlabplace and her head starts to glow like a medieval rendition of the Virgin Mary, or some holy Jesus person. Then things go really wonky and she starts to float, make things whizz around, and destroys the roof of one section of the mansion.

Of course, through the power of teamwork and Rogue's powers, the X-Men solve the potential crisis, and the result is a mopey Rogue (who I can relate with with the whole "I LOVE YOU!!!" "Duhh, Jean?" "Grrr!" thing O.o), a lovable Scott, and a still-annoying Jean. Oh, and Duncan sends her a bunch of roses, which I think is actually kinda cute, because Jean needs to run off with him so Scott can be with Rogue, Lance, or even Taryn O.o

The end! I probably left some stuff out...

Brotherhood Moments: Lance!! He's the only BH member you see in this ep, but what you see of him is pretty cute, even if he's just trying to impress Kitty all the time! Oh, and he mentions Freddy and... stink bombs... which... yeah. ^^ Anywho, you see him walking Kitty to chemistry, talking with Kitty in chemistry, and saving a bunch of girls from getting killed by skanky ho-bitch Jean because he's awesome. :D

My Opinion: I hate Jean Grey. I HATE Jean Grey! I wish her head exploded when her powers got wonky. But nooo, of course she had to live (well, that was a given, since "Badda Bing Badda BOOM" takes places after this ep and we all knew she would never ever ever die >.<). You know how I bitch about Boom Boom? My hatred for Jean goes beyond that, for the Boom Boom thing was just my immediate reaction to the episode (I dislike her a LOT less at the moment, though if I watched "Badda Bing, Badda Boom" again, I'd be saying different ;P), whereas my Jean-bashing is a long-time, always-had thing. Ever since the old cartoon, when I was like a teeny tiny child, I hated Jean. She was just so freakin' BLAND!!! I mean, yeesh!! I hated Scott because he was a tight-ass, Avalanche because he was so big and stupid, Pyro because he was... I don't even remember why, and Quicksilver because he was too cranky and bitchy (like I've been lately O.o), but those were all things I got over, and eventually I came to love those characters! XD But not Jean. Never Jean. Blandness is so much harder to get over than big stupidity, endearing tight-assishness, and don't-remember-why-I-hated-Johnny. So, naturally, my opinion on an episode all about her was like "Whaa? This is boring. End already! END!"

But I loved all of the Scott scenes, Rogue scenes, Lance scenes, and Hank scenes if you just subtract Jean from them. :D Really, they had some good moments in the ep, but I just hate Jean. Yep.

Rating (out of 5): Change of rating! After rewatching the ep, I've decided to give it a 4 because Scott and Lance and 2-seconds of Bobby are too damn cute to be dragged down by Jean. :D

BH Babble:

: This episode is a godsend, yo!
: Why, 'cause Grey gets hurt?
: No-- well, yeah, but also that Boom Boom chick ain't in our group in this ep!
: Yes! Thanks to the wonders of playing the episodes out of their original order, we're spared--
: Hey, guys! Whatcha doin'? Oh! Episode review! Mmm! I love these! *steals screen time*
: ... *twitch twitch*
: Hey! I thought Rosiel said that there wouldn't be a Boom Boom chibi and that... that... they were s'posed to look to me to be the dumb blonde of the site O.o; Uh... does this mean I get to be a smart blonde again? *big hopeful smile*
Rosiel: (if ever I make a chibi of myself, be afraid) No *thwaps John*
: Owww >_o *suddenly feels stupider* Oooh, lookit the sparklies!!
: Wow! Sparklies! I LOVE these! *steals the imaginary sparklies that Johnny's marveling at, then throws a boomy-ball at him because she seems to compulsively do that to people*
: AAh!! Make her go awaaay!
: *blinks* Am I the only one who thinks she's okay?
: Yes! I want my sister!! *sobs*
: Huh? You rang?
: SIIIIISSSS!!! *glomps Wanda*
: *points at Tabitha while still being glomped by her brother* Who's she?
: Our new recruit. *is poked by Freddy* Oh yeah! Yo.
: I don't remember ever seeing her as a Brotherhood member...
: That's because, like, the show producers felt that the Brotherhood needed a new female member! *strikes a pose* So here I am!
: Well, why didn't they just bring ME in?!
: Because I'm cooler than you. *flings a boomy-ball at Wanda*
: Hey! *flings a hex-bolt at the ceiling above Tabitha...*
: Erp... O.O *is crushed by the ceiling*
: .... YAY!!
: I'm da bitch. ^^
