Episode 27: Operation Rebirth

A review by Gale ^-^

Introducing: Captain America and Nick Fury! And Maggie and Sabietoof come back! YAYYYYY!

The Gist of It: Scene opens on Logan riding on his motorcycle in the country. It's a new motorcycle, Harley-ish and not that stupid futuristic looking hunk of junk he's always driving that looks like those motorcycle-bikes they sold to kids, but ANYWAY.... Big Heck-o-lopter is following him and these people inside scan him and pick up his adamantium skeleton. He takes off his helmet while driving and sniffs the air like he always does when his Wolverine-sense is tingling then uses his claws as mirrors to see the heck-o-lopter then takes off into the trees.

He gets stopped and a guy with grey hair and an eyepatch comes off the heck-o-lopter (Nick Fury) and calls him Weapon X and stuff.

Cue opening Credits.

Wolvie says he's not workin for the government anymore and tries to leave. But Nicky tells the Heck-o-lopter people to shoot his bike and he's all like "NOOOOO! MY BIIIIIKE!" so he cooperates. Nick tells him that something called Rebirth was stolen, and Logan doesn't buy it cuz he says him and "Rogers" destroyed it, but then Nick says there was a backup and that was stolen. Says it was "mothballed in level 5 security" and shows him a pic of the torn up door that was supposed to say locked and mentions a magnetic field and Logan's all scowly and says "Magneto...."

And Galey (that's me) yells "YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!"

Logan tells Xavier about the Rebirth machine, about how he served in the Army back in World War II, and the Rebirth was supposed to make super-human soldiers to help fight the evil Nazis! (They actually go through the whole episode without ever actually SAYING the word Nazi.) Big Flashback: The first person they tried it on was this skinny little geeky goof guy who was the Rogers that Logan was talking about and he turns into (YOU GUESSED IT!) Captain America! You see him save a poor dumb American from a German plane (first he blinds the guy with the reflection of the sun on his shield then cuts a wing of the plane off with it). Him and Logan make friends. And stuff.

Then Logan tells X that the machine was stolen by Magneto. X does his whole Dr.Spock "Fascinating" type scowl.

We come back from Commercial and we've got Kurt and Rogue hanging out together and all that fun jazz, there's a power surge and the electricity blinks on and off, and Galey thinks YAY! Magneto coming up already! But no, they figure that X is using Cerebro at full power and go to see what's up.

We see X and Logan looking at this screen on Cerebro and seeing there's lots and lots of Mutants around the world now! But they can't find Magneto. =/ He's been keeping his "cloaking technology" up to date with Cerebro's upgrades, apparrently.

So Rogue pops in and says "Hey! I touched him and suddenly episodes and episodes later I conveniently remember where his secret hideaway in the Sahara desert is! But we can't get in without having the power of Magnetism or teleporting, so I get to go on this mission and Kurt too! Yay!"

Logan broods.

So Wolvie, Rogue, and Nightcrawler are now in the cheap plastic Heck-o-Lopter from the second part of The Cauldron. Wolverine tells them about the rebirth machine and Captain America and how they went to liberate a "POW" camp in Poland (It was a concentration camp, but dumb censors don't want kiddles knowing about real history, apparrently). Big Flashback. Lotta fighting, and they free the people there, including this cute lil boy named Erik Lehnsherr who helps them with his Magnetic powers.

End flashback, and Logan explains that the Rebirth had a defect; when it was used on humans, the cells would reject it and eventually kill the host. So Captain America pretty much got screwed. So they destroyed the first Rebirth machine and never learned about the backup, which Magneto has. So they're going to Maggie's secret lair to blow the thing up! Horray! But that means Maggie might be in the crossfire! Booo!

They land when they see the hideout and get on Motorcycles and drive over, but they get attacked by missiles that for some reason are coming from the direction they just came from. Kurt ports em all in and they see the machine, but someone's inside. So they're about to go over and put a bomb on it, but then someone attacks them and it's

DUNDUNDUUUUUUUUUUN!!!

Sabretooth! And he doesn't look like a cross between Sweetums and the Cookie Monster anymore! HORRAY!

Logan makes some stupid reference to a litterbox and they start fighting. Kurt and Rogue hurry to go snap the bomb onto the machine but then they get hit by big metal beams and pinned to the walls. Kurt ports away from them and sticks the bomb on the machine, but then he sees who's inside....

Magneto! YAYYYYYY!

But he's old and wrinkly and ugly! BOOOOOO!

Magneto says that the machine isn't hazardous to mutants, only humans. He explains that he's very old and the only way he can stay alive is through stuff like this. (Which is why he used those stupid ditch-effort-last-minute-story-idea crystals of Cytorrak!) And if Kurt blows up the machine, he'll die. And then he puts him on a guilt trip by saying if he did that he'd be just like his mother. So Kurt lets him alone and Logan gets all mad and stuff.

When he's done tussling with Sabietoof, he runs over and slices up the machine, pulls Maggie out (all recharged and sexy again! YAYYY!!!), and sets off the bomb. Magneto regains consciousness and is all like ARRRGH! So he turns all the metal pieces left over into a giant spider thing (*cough*WildWildWestripoff*cough*) and gets Logan, Rogue, and Kurt pinned. He's about to kill them when he's all like "Screw it," and he lets them go cuz Kurt let him use the machine, then tells Logan that "A little boy in Poland owed him as much" or something like that. And there's smiling and stuff as he lets them out.

Logan goes to visit someplace before they go home, and you see him talking to a cryo-genically frozen Captain America, and he tells him that the machine is gone and he'll keep looking for a cure for him. It's all touchy and stuff then Done!

Brotherhood Moments: Practically none! Magneto's in it! YAY!!! Which is a connection to Brotherhood and the still sane member PIETRO! Okay *cough* And he mentions Mystique, which was really backhanded of him to begin with.

My Opinion: YAYYYYYY!!! They brought back Maggie! And he's sexy again! He's in TWO episodes of Season 2 now. And Sabretooth is back to being cute again! My physics teacher got me hooked on Captain America so I was really happy with his addition, too. But Magneto made it all worth while. And they kept his story straight! YAY! They made it legitimate! YAY! I tolerate the writers again! YAY!

Rating (out of 5): I give it a 5. Presence of Magneto makes all the difference. And NO BOOMBOOM! YAYYY!!!! I liked the story even if Logan was all lame about his motorcycle and stuff.
