X-Men: Evolution 5 - Untouchable

Featuring: Rogue

The Gist of It: This amazing and touching (haha... touching... untouchable... eh) issue opens with Scott kissing Jean. Well, okay, actually, Jean's playing dead (yes, just playing. Damn), and he's "waking her up" with some CPR of loooove. Yessss, those delightful little scamps known as the X-Men are training in the Danger Room! Fun! Everybody's all watching and stuff, and Scott gets all "uh... hehe *grin*" and sap ensues. Rogue gets all "bleh" and storms off, much to everybody's shock (well, they're not too terribly bright. Who knew the girl who can't touch would mind when the guy she likes is all over Mary Sue-- er, Jean)

Cut to: Bayville High! Risty and Rogue are hangin' by the lockers, and Eogue's watching Scott flirt with Jean all sad-like (Rogue's all sad-like, I mean, not flirty Scott). Risty gets like "He only cares about Jean, screw everybody else!" which gets Rogue more sad and makes her grab her breasts in sadness (okay, not true, but it sure looks like it!). Risty walks off and... *shocker* turns into biker chick Mystique!

Later, at the Brotherhood Boarding House, we get to see... guess who! The Brotherhood! What a surprise (a delightful surprise, no less)! Anywho, Pietro's running around training or omething in the living room, and the other boys are hanging around and watching TV. Or something like that. Mystique bursts in all ho-ey and, much like in "HeX Factor", lines the boys up for a meeting, this time on psychological warfare! The plan is (c'mon, it's so obvious) to use Rogue's insecurities to driver her to the Brotherhood!

Back at the Institute, Kitty gets a call from her mom, which bums out Kurt (oh, if only Mystique spent some more quality time with him), who Rogue sort of comforts. Sort of.

Next day, Rogue's staring at Scott, who's reading happily (poor clueless lad). Jean comes up to her and whispers some nastiness in her ear like "You don't have a chance with Scott. He feels sorry for you. I'm a bitch, blah blah." But wait! The real Jean Gray would never do this! She's too nice and pure of heart! What's going on?! Oh, right, it's just Mystique disguised as Jean. Anyway, Freddy comes up to Rogue all nice and friendly like, introduces himself, then walks off all nice and friendly like. Creepy.

Later, in the Danger Room (at 4:00, precisely), Scott and Rogue are training, and his visor gets knocked off. Rogue tells him to turn his head in this one direction and open his eyes. He gets all "What if I hit ou?", so she does the "Trust me" thing. This gets Scott to open his eyes and... painful screaming ensues. Freaked out, Scott gets his visor and sticks it on, only to find that Rogue is a-ok. She does the "Worried about me?" thing, while Scott freaks and hyperventilates. Then, dumb Jean comes in and is all "*grabs Scott* That wasn't nice, Rogue! *pets Scott* I can't take a joke! *molests Scott* It's time to lecture you for flirting with the guy I lead on for fun-- I mean... for being... mean!"

Thankfully, Rogue tells her to stuff it and walks off. Evan's doing stuff outside that pertains to families, and so Kurt watches from the window looking sad. Let us all give a collective "awww" now,

Next day, Rogue's in the library reading, so Mystique becomes Risty who becomes Scott. "Scott" puts his hands on his hips like an angry mother and tells Rogue just how much she sucks compared to Jean. Pietro, who's trying to hide his evil grin behind a book (hiding behind a book gives you +2 Subterfuge! Er, sorry...), pops up from behind said book and comes to the rescue! "Scott" storms off and Pietro gets all "Be our friend!" to Rogue.

And so, that night, Rogue packs her things and heads toward the Boarding House, where the Brotherhood boys are hanging around. The invite her in, blah blah, then Mystique stupidly reveals her plan while Pietro tries to stop her from revealing said plan because he's smart like that. This results in Rogue single-handedly kicking their asses and getting Mystique and Pietro's powers in the process.

Rogue then runs home (*gasp!* without her bags!), turns into Mystique's form, and says some nice things to half-asleep Kurt, then goes to her room. Awww... the end.

BH Moments: Finally, the Brotherhood plays a role in the comics! We first see them at home being boys at home, then we see Freddy stick up for Rogue after "Jean" bitches her out, then we see Pietro stick up for Rogue when "Scott" bitches her out, then finally we see them all at home, ready to get their asses kicked by Rogue.

Characterization: We gets some Rogue characterization, but nothing that we didn't already know from the show, soooo... yeah!

My Opinion: Uhh, I don't really know. I mean, it's... uh... okay. For some reason, the concept of "teenage X-Men dealing with high school issues" has lost most of its novelty for me. I mean, yeah, I still like the Evo show, but as far as the comics go, I kinda stopped taking an interest in the concept.

Rating (out of 5): 3. Thaaaat's about it.

Art Rating (out of 5): 3. It'd be kinda dumb to change my rating when the art's been the same for all of the issues.

BH Babble:

: Wow, that was pathetic...
: I can't believe we got our asses kicked by her!
: Collectively, no less.
: Yeah, and for once Mystique can't bitch at us for screwin' up, 'cause it was all her fault this time!
: Oh, I'm sure she'll find a way, yo.
: Let us never speak of this incident again.
