After receiving a mysterious object one night at a festival, Julian, a young man with latent PSI abilities, eventually leaves his hometown of Snowman in an effort to find a lost Chosen One. Along the way, he meets and is accompanied by three others, and together they attempt to fend off a series of enigmatic attacks while being drawn into something that is far more complex than they could've expected, yet far more simple than they ever imagined.

Mother Alternate, the creation of longtime "EarthBound Zero" fan Giampi, is a first-generation Neo-"EarthBound" story, and one of the most revered works in "EarthBound" fanfiction. It is separated into three volumes, with the first 16 chapters being followed by "Ellay Saga," in which the story is generally considered to have hit its stride, and then being concluded by the more somber "Finality" arc -- which injected a strong dose of human drama into certain aspects of character motivation, bringing the tale to a memorable close.
