| Giampaolo Bianchi, better known as Giampi (pronounced "Jom-pi"), is a famed writer of "EarthBound" fanfiction. Following a nice foundation of work in Interactive Fiction, he would go on to a well-received solo run with 'fics like Mother: Absolution and EarthBound Legacies. His most famous work remains the 37-part Mother Alternate, considered both one of the best fanfics in the medium and a definitive Neo-"EarthBound" story. Giampi's writing is well known for high quality action scenes, as well as its exploration of family drama and companionship -- two themes throughout Mother Alternate, with the former making a prominent appearance again in his subsequent story, E. Revolution. His skill has earned him invitations to partake in group projects such as The Candle: Stories of Confession and EarthBound: The Miniseries, while he still makes occasional contributions to Interactive Fiction. | Major Strengths: Skilled at creating plots filled with mysterious content and rich histories. He is also known for exceptional action scenes, and is an accomplished creator of Author Characters.
Room For Improvement (as of this writing): Nothing noteworthy. Notable Contemporaries: Flying Zamboni 2, INouveaux18, and Bouvier. Quote: "Don't be afraid to try new things." Way Back Then Giampi was one of the first writers to attempt to bridge the gap between "Mother" and "Mother 2" in fanfiction, as a couple of his early tales, Mother: Absolution and EarthBound Legacies, feature crossover material between the two games. This creative work caught the eyes of several readers, bringing the author fan mail. Legacies, a tale examining Ness's family tree and its role in the history of PSI, is also notable for being one of the earliest solo stories to introduce and develop ACs in a quest alongside the originals. Giampi's most noted accomplishment with characters of his own creation, however, was yet to come. 'Mother Alternate' Questions raised during Giampi's most famed work include the following: -What is the definition of a family? -What are the dangers of PSI in the wrong hands? -How far would a person go to protect what they value most? A 37-part epic divided into three volumes, Mother Alternate was Giampi's love letter to all those responsible for the very first game in the "Mother" series. The story introduced several new characters of varying backgrounds, including a reclusive but intelligent forest boy, a plucky, independent gizmo girl, and a PSI-gifted young woman who'd taken her resentment over a personal matter to great extremes. These characters and many others gradually became players in a mysterious game, encountering several bouts of action and romance along the way. During the story's final battle, the last of the above questions was left hovering over each of the two main combatants, with surprising and riveting answers being revealed. The Prince And I In addition to his fondness for the first "Mother" game, Giampi is also a noted Poo fan, authoring the tale "Everything and Nothing" from the 2002 group project The Candle: Stories of Confession. Written during the production of Mother Alternate and before E. Revolution, the story employs notable aspects of both, namely ambition, jealousy, and redemption. Just as a character from MA carries and must resolve the emotional burden of her actions, and just as a key player from E. Revolution, Maxwell Labs, is driven toward corruption by a variety of personal desires, Giampi's one-shot with Poo examines the prince as he faces similar issues. 'E. Revolution' Giampi would continue his contribution to genres in late 2003. While Mother Alternate stands as a shining example of AC drama, this 13-part limited series represents a defining accomplishment of "EarthBound" alternate reality. With a discordian theme at its foundation, E. Revolution presents a world where an entity called Giygas embodies chaos and a defense organization by the name of SANCTUARY represents order. As things progress, we find Ness, Paula, Jeff, Poo, and several others from "EarthBound" cast in entertaining new roles as the conflict between the two forces reveals its toll on certain individuals. An ever-deepening tale of the tragic personal histories, present-day ambitions, and surprising secrets that surround the SANCTUARY organization, E. Revolution is a much-respected work of "EarthBound" fanfiction that ranked very highly in EFR's list of the 25 Best "EB" Fanfics Ever. Giampi has described the finished product as being somewhere between two of the most well-known concepts of "Mother" storytelling -- the rewrite and the alternate reality -- while intermingling a commentary on discordianism and a bit of narrative inspiration from the work of Philip Pullman. Fantastic Fiction With a collection of completed tales that have established him as one of "EarthBound" fanfiction's most accomplished writers, Giampi's work stands as some of the overall greatest and most groundbreaking writing in the medium. |
