First Generation:
The first generation of mainstream Neo-"EarthBound" fanfiction occured from 2000 - 2002, an experimental phase that saw the quiet rises of 'fics like Mother Alternate, Nephew of the Forgotten One, and Resurrection E. Besides featuring new characters, each of the early tales mentioned in this list were distinguished in other ways as well, with the first serving in part as an explanatory work, the second giving lead spots to characters who were previously in supporting roles, and the third taking place in the distant future.
Second Generation:
The term "second-generation," when applied to Neo-"EarthBound," refers to 2003 - 2005, in which stories like E. Revolution, EarthBound 202X, EarthBound: The Horsemen Saga, EarthBound Omega, 101, and several other Neo- tales arose -- many of those others starring new characters and not progressing very far. Overall, this era, being the height of Neo- popularity, marks one of the most important and entertaining periods in the history of radical "EarthBound" storytelling.
