He is soon confronted by famous hero Jeff Andonuts, now in his forties, who informs him that the Earth is being attacked by a renewed alien threat, which must be opposed by a new group of fabled heroes known as the Chosen Eight -- of which Zain is a member. After overcoming a bout of skepticism, Zain resolves to find the other seven members and, with the assistance of their adult mentors, uncover another eight Sanctuaries.

EarthBound 202X: The Chosen Eight is a second-generation Neo-"EarthBound" story which became one of the most acclaimed and well-known Neo- tales from that era, earning occasional comments from the Starmen.Net Fan Forum, gleaming reviews on Fanfiction.Net, and being EFR's pick for the top fanfic of 2003. Besides having a few qualities of Neo- tradition, such as budding romance and new PSI powers, it is also known among readers for its devoted efforts to incorporate and expand upon certain material from "EarthBound," as some characters in this story have very meaningful ties to those from the one it's based on.
