Weekly News Summary Welcome to the first in our weekly news round ups. Theres not much more to say, so let the news begin:
PS2: The Development Pig As you probably know every games developer says the PS2 is a pig to develop for, and recently the president of Oddworld Inhabitants, Mr Lorne Lannings had this to say: "The more ambitious your trying to be and the higher your standards are with a game the more potholes your going to find in the system. When we found potholes in the PS2, some of them caused design changes because the system wasn't delivering what we thought it could. All of the surprise costs or diversions ultimately came out of the games budget. I'd rather be putting money into the game than hardware quirks."
Dream Game A US physicist has been using tetris to find out what happens to our memories when we sleep. Dr Robert Strickgold of Havard Medical School has been monitering a group of peoples, including amnesia sufferers, dreams. Robert had this to say: "Amnesia sufferers can tell you what they like for breakfast, but can't tell you what they like for breakfast." These test will help future generations in the task to gain world peace and are really useful, I don't think.
I-WAR II: Canned Infogrames highly anticipated space sim I-War II has been canned for the Dreamcast, as the DC market has been deemed to weak. The PC version is still on, so the DC version beening canceled is really stupid. It may not be the strongest market ever, but surely it can't cost that much to do a straight PC to DC port? More on the canning business, Eidos insist that there controversal game Hitman is still on, despite rumours that it has been doomed to development hell after the developers and publishers arguing about releasing the game bug ridden.
THQ-BOX THQ has announced its first X-box exclusive game, New Legends. Word has it that it will be a combat game based on the engine of the excellent Unreal. More on this as it comes...
Downloads Newly found games publisher WEB Corp will be introducing a new way of selling games soon. The idea is that you buy the basic game, then download the rest of the internet. Of course, this will always be the best place to download games. Hopefully. Also; The next Tomb Raider game, though it may not be called Tomb Raider, will work in a similar way. One thing worries me about this, though: what if your not on the net?
3D Command and Conquer? It has been rumoured for some time that the next installment of the C&C series will be 3D, and recently someone important from the company who unfortunatley I can't remember has hinted heavily towards that.
The Matrix Game Well, not quite, but film genius John Woo will be making games for the next gen consoles. These are likely to be shoot 'em ups with excellent cutscenes and inevitable slow motion cheats.
