| HOME | Day on the towns.... There comes a time, once a fortnight, when one of the security guards at my institute have to pick up there kids/mother/dog. So, sneaking out of my padded cell, creeping down the corridors, I then make a dash across the feilds, and, after the guard dogs have chewed on my leg a bit, I'm free for the day. And what better to do in my one day of freedom then to ask game store staff about games? Look; 12:30am - Virgin Megastore My first stop was virgin, and they seem to have done a little rearanging of the isles since last week, mainly getting rid of most Dreamcast games and magazines. I went up to the couter and asked them where they all are. The member of staff looked puzzled and pointed me in the direction she had just seen me come from. "Over there," she said. "But there are hardly any there now, how come?" She claims that they had only been reduced in number a little, and that Dreamcast games don't sell. They wont sell if you you don't stock them, I say, but apparently "they didn't sell when we did stock them." "But didn't that Tennis game set to number one a couple of weeks ago?" I asked. "I don't know" she said and shrugged before starting to serve a different customer, so I decided to have a look round the shop since she decided to ignore me. 1:00am - Game When I first walked into this shop I immediatley noticed something odd, they still had a pre order PS2 sign up, despite here in England it started almost a month ago and finished about two weeks ago. "Are you still taking pre-orders for the PS2?" I asked. "Er... I think so, yes". "How many?" "One, possibly two. Would you like to pre order one?" he asks me. I ask him what the point is, and tell him that it probably wont come until after Christmas, and that by that time the price will be dropped £100. He agrees that that is true, and quite stupid. I then ask him wether he thinks the PS2 has been as succesful as he had expected. "Not like the first one, no," he replies, "the first one was really succesful because of marketing. Sony hasn't done any marketing at all". I thanked him and bought a computer games magazine, Arcade. 1:20am -Burger King I bought a double rodeo cheese burger and, from a nearby shop, a small bottle of coke. I went outside and sat on a buch to eat my lunch, flicking through the magazine at the same time. It had a "world exclussive rare interview" where they talked about Perfect Dark and there plans for the GameCube version. They also did a review of PS2 Fifa, and after further research, guess what? One of the kits are wrong, Arsenal's. Why? That would be because they're sponsored by Dreamcast. There was also an interview with Sony gaming boss, Chris Deering, and when asked about Sega, he started laughing. A bit over confident, maybe? 1:55am - Streets On my way to the next shop, I saw two little kids arguing about which pikachu looks best on there trading cards and pulling funny faces at each other, and, when I started laughing at them, they both pointed at each other and said "see, even he's laughing at you", both thinking I was laughing at the other one, which made me laugh even more. Also, a little later one of the men there were selling bits of bum fluff attached to a stick and refering to them as "bumble bees". Oh how I laughed! 2:00am - HMV Apparently, theres a sale going on at HMV, but that doesn't stop everything costing about 50% more than in other shops. When I asked a member of staff there why everythings so expensive, they just looked annoyed and told me that no ones forcing me to by anything. After having a quick look round, I went to a different member of staff and asked whats the point in getting a P21 if you already have a PSX. He told me its portable, and I told him that it hasn't got its own screen, and asked how your supposed to play it. He told me you can get a screen as an add-on. "How much is it?" I asked. "I don't know," he replied, it isn't out yet." When I asked him when its out, he said he doesn't know that eigher, and that Sony hasn't actualy confirmed any of it yet. So, that was the end of my day. I'll sneak back out in a fortnight, until then I best be consealed from the outside world. |
