Lylat Wars

By David O'Sullivan

Chapter 1

Fox flew over a forest of Corneria; diving and flying swiftly between trees in the old arwing his father had fixed up with him. He was only fifteen, but he loved to fly, just like his father. His radio crackled and he heard his father's voice.

"Fox, can you hear me? Fox, I need you to come back here right away. I have something important to tell you."

"I'm coming, Father," answered Fox. He turned round and then flew directly towards his father's base.

He landed in the docking bay of The Great Fox, a huge aircraft carrier his father had named after him. His Father, James Mc Cloud, walked towards him, his friends and wingmen, Peppy and Pigma, following closely behind.

"Fox, I have to go now, Andross is up to something on Venom. But don't worry, we'll be okay." James rubbed his hand in his sons hair, smiled at him, and then turned and climbed into his arwing and got ready to take off. Peppy and Pigma did the same thing. The three ships rose off the ground. Peppy smiled at the young boy before flying off. This would be the last time Fox would see his father.

Chapter 2

Two days later, Fox saw just one of the three ships approaching. Before the arwing even landed, Fox was rushing towards it, desperate to see who it was.

Peppy stag gered out of his battered ship. He looked sadly at him, and then through his arms around young Fox.

Fox knew what had happened already. His father was dead. After a few seconds Fox pushed himself away and ran off to his room. Peppy stood still for a moment, holding James' helmet in his hands.

Later on, Fox heard Peppy talking to his mother. It was Pigma's fault. Pigma's. He had betrayed his friends on Venom. He had helped StarWolf to kill his father, and almost Peppy, too.

The leader of Corneria, Sergeant Pepper was at his Fathers funeral, and gave a long speech on how his father had sacrificed his life to save Corneria and ruin the evil Andross' plans. This made Fox proud of his father, but at the same time angry that Sergeant Pepper hadn't done anything himself. If he hadn't exiled Andross to the planet Venom in the first place, maybe none of this would have happened, and his father might still be alive. And the way he had sent the Cornerian army and StarFox to battle with Andross and StarWolf, but never fought himself. All this made Fox angry, and that night he swore that he would reek revenge on Andross, StarWolf, and Pigma.

Chapter 3

8 Years Later

Fox looked out of his office window after he had heard an explosion. Dozens of aircraft flew round the city, shooting at buildings, pedestrian vehicles, and the odd fighter plane that the small Cornerian army may have deployed. He watched as a huge aircraft carrier lowered to the ground crushing trees and small buildings as it did so. Around ten groups of ten ground vehicles drove out, as well as half a dozen huge robots. They drove around on wheels, firing rockets from their left arm, and long bursts bullets out of machine guns in its right arm.

They all fired rockets near the bottom off the same multi-storey building, and then barged into it, one by one, until it collapsed. A soldier watched wide eyed as the building fell towards him. Just before the building fell on him, another soldier ran in behind him, and pulled him out .

"Thanks, Falco," the man said to the soldier who had saved him.

"Anytime," Falco answered while walking away. He pulled out his laser gun and start shooting down some of the aircraft his gun was powerful enough to take down.

Fox continued to watch the robots as they destroyed another building, and listening to the screams of the citizens being killed. The robots were heading towards the multi-storey building he was in. He ducked quickly as one of the robots sprayed bullets through the office window. He heard a rumbling as one of the rockets hit the building a few floors below. Small stones and dust fell from the ceiling and Fox dived to the floor, covering his head with his hands. The floor tilted and Fox slid across the floor hitting the wall hard. The room was full of dust and Fox was finding it hard to breathe. He covered his mouth with his shirt and stood up to examine the room.

The door was hanging from the ceiling, so the only way out was through the window. He looked out to see how far the drop was. It was only a few feet, so he took the remaining bits of glass from the window rim using a broken chair leg, hanged of the edge with his hands, let go and fell.

Falco was now in a sewer, after discovering that some of the enemy vehicles where coming from in there. He had destroyed some of them, but he hadn't seen any for a couple of minutes. He was ready to go back onto the streets were he was needed more.

There was a stream of dirty water running down the centre of the sewer, a platform running around the top edge of the sewer and, there, that was what he was looking for. Falco put his laser gun in his belt and then started climbing a ladder towards a grid that lead outside. What he didn't know was that a smaller version of the robots on the streets above was behind him. The man inside the robot quietly moved the control stick and pressed a string of buttons. The guns target was locked on to Falco's head now, and the controller squeezed the trigger.
