Treaty 8 Commission camp at Fort Vermilion - 1899

Treaty Eight

On July 8, 1899, the Beaver and Cree gathered at Fort Vermilion to sign Treaty #8. The Treaty Commission had been holding meetings throughout the north in order to obtain signatures. The Slavey and others who were missed signed the following year, June 23, 1900.

A replica of Treaty #8 is housed in the Archives of the Fort Vermilion Heritage Centre and there is a copy exhibited.
