Upper East Region
Sharing a border with Burkina Faso, the Upper
East Region is a major transit point for people entering the
country from Mali,Niger and our other neighbours. Bolgatanga is
the Capital. Handicrafts like Strawhats,Beautiful
Baskets, leather goods and metal jewellery are the works of the
local folks aside Castle Rearing.
The Tongo Whistling Rocks rise
dramatically from the landscape. Local Legends have it that,the
whistling comes from the Harmattan during the Cold Season. There
is also the Paga Crocodile Pond which is sacred to the
reptilesThe Crocodiels are enticed by the custodians with Live
Chicken.It will carry you across the river but inn the presence
of the priest. The Naa Gbewa's Shrine commemorates Naa Gbewaa at
Pusiga who founded the Mole-Dagbon tribe in the 13th Century.
