The Sarracenia Flava originates from South-West Virginia, South Georgia, North Florida, Carolina and South Alabama.
This plant produces tall, lean pitchers about 50cm - 75cm in hight. These pitchers grow in Spring and early Summer, then in late Summer, flat, non-carnivorous leaves called phyllodia are produced. This plant has a flared lid and a very large mouth; excellent for trapping insects such as blue bottles (flies), wasps, and bees. There are several varieties of this plant and many different colour variations.
There are quite a few forms of this plant, they are; Maxima (Pitchers are green with large red blotches at the mouth), All Green Form, Veined Form (Pitchers are green with red veins), Red Tube Form, (Pitcher tube is dark red, mouth and lid is green with red veins), All Red Form, Coppertop (The upper pitcher lid is a copper colour and the rest of the plant in veined. |
