Below are a few articles that I have written on various topics in astronomy
Astronomy: Pushing the Envelope
An introduction to the subject of astrophilately, the collecting of stamps with an astronomical theme. This article was published in the December 2005 Spectrogram, the newsletter of the S*T*A*R Astronomy Society.
Revisiting the Leonids: Observations of the 2001-2004 Showers
A discussion of the history and significance of the Leonid meteor shower, and my observations of the showers of 2001 to 2004. This article was published in the November 2005 Spectrogram.
A discussion of the organization and early history of my club, the Society of Telescopy, Astronomy and Radio, a.k.a., S*T*A*R, an organization with roots reaching back to the beginning of the space race. This article was published in the February 2005 Spectrogram.
The Apparent Brightness of Deep Sky Objects
A discussion of the relationship between size and published visual magnitude of deep sky objects on their apparent brightness and observability. This article was also published in the Spectrogram. A follow-on note offering a quantitative approach to the concepts described in my article was written by fellow S*T*A*R member, Ed Collett, and is available here.
A recollection written in memory of my astronomy mentor and good friend, Kay G. Sears after his passing in 1999.
