Princess Cordelia
Don't hold back now It's been a long time since I felt this way So don't hold back now I purposely forgot about loving anyone..."
Character Image Character Information
About 5'9", slim and palely pretty, Cordelia is the graceful and stylish image of a royal princess. She wears her long dark brown hair up almost all the time, in coiffures that would be severe except for accents of curls, ribbons, or pearls. Her most striking features are her full lips and her large dark green eyes. She wears elegant, flattering clothes, but somewhat demurely cut, always in subdued colors, and she likes to wear as much jewelry as possible without looking overdone or cheap. Her colors are pale blue, sage green and gold. Her device is, on a lozenge, per chief azure, on a field azure and vert, a crown or within a bordure or. Cordelia is pragmatic and cautious, with a need to understand everything. She is deeply emotional though she hides it under a mask of demure politeness and distance. She has a horrible, though slow temper. Her goals are to protect Amber and her father, and to make things better. Above all else, she fears rejection and loss.Cordelia's mother's name was Adora. She was a lady of Le Forsure. Random never married Adora, and though Cordelia was recognized as the daughter of the king, her status remains illegitimate. Cordelia's birth was a difficult one for Adora, leading to mental breakdowns and instability. Eventually her condition declined to the point where she was quietly moved back to Le Forsure to be cared for by relatives. She died a few years later. Cordelia, on the other hand, thrived in the palace. She never knew her mother, and remembers her mostly through some images and feelings she still remembers. She was mostly raised by Indigo Rain, Lady Keera, and various nannies. Even as a baby, Cordelia was an almost unnaturally good child - she rarely cried, and she had a talent for sitting quietly and amusing herself. As she grew older, she tried exceptionally hard to please her father, hoping to see him more often if she behaved well, since she saw him less often if she behaved badly. She threw herself into all of her studies, even the ones she found less interesting, and did very well at all her lessons. No matter how hard she worked, Random never became a larger part of her life. He did praise her, occasionally, for her outstanding efforts at her studies however. Her talent for music and art manifested itself at a very early age. She also turned out to be an exquisite dancer, graceful, knowledgeable and capable of following anyone. Her singing voice was pleasant but not amazing - high, sweet and clear, but without much power. When she was allowed to go to events or salons she was pleasant but not forward, and kept mostly to herself. From ten to twelve, Cordelia suddenly became somewhat volatile. She constantly sought someone to talk to, or complain to, or cry on the shoulder of. She got into more trouble than usual, sometimes even on purpose to try to get her father's attention. In an especially bad case of this, at twelve, Cordelia ran away from home, trying to get to Le Forsure to her mother's family. The plan backfired, as she ended up stowing aboard and having to work a cargo ship bound for Begma of all places! Cordelia learned a lot about life outside of the palace, freedom and responsibility during her stay onboard the ship. When she returned to Amber, she was a changed person. She had decided that she had a duty as a Princess of Amber to represent Amber in a complimentary light under every circumstance and to protect and help the King at all times. She formed her sense of honor around this notion - her code includes duty, loyalty, truth, and purity/chastity. Duty, of course, was the key word, since it was the way that Cordelia finally found something of a niche of Amber. This is somewhat dangerous since it means that Cordelia can break the rest of her code of honor if it is for the good of Amber. In her teenage years, she began to try to overcome her natural shyness at parties, and she organized her first charity event (to feed and clothe orphans in the city). She was withdrawn, but available. She no longer went on "adventures" or gets into trouble, although she didn't turn in a sibling or cousin asking her to join them on a shady mission. She just politely declined. Cordelia went to Annapolis to study at the naval academy and then joined Amber's Navy for a few years. Eventually, she walked the Pattern and swore one hundred years of service to the King. Her choice of service was to become the Deputy Prime Minister, an official and thankless job, but one that allowed her to use her talents at writing, her skill at minutiae and detail-work, and kept her at home and relatively close to her father. Cordelia has never had a romance that anyone is aware of, but she does keep up a close correspondence with Marcus, a man she met aboard the Piedmont during her adventure away from home. MISCELLANY The main image for Cordelia depicts the way she looks at game start. Above this caption and at the far left is Cordelia's trump image. Beside it is a mood piece that captures the Princess' usual attitude. Copyrights & Credits
