Lady
Lady is a 5 1/2 year old brindle who had been used for breeding her whole life. Her home was a 10' X 10' pen of solid mud and waste. Her owner tried to give her to animal control. Fortunately, animal control put the owner in touch with Mastiff Rescue who got her to the veterinarian for a check on heartworm,  vaccinations, and had her spayed and microchipped.
Lady was very shy and cringed at the least sudden movement. However, she responded to quiet loving and petting. She loves "cookies." She is partial to women, but is not aggressive with men - just afraid. Lady needed a quiet home with a lot of one on one attention. And mastiff rescue found one for her. She was adopted by her foster family in January 2002.

Sally
Here is another wonderful success story.
Sally is the last of a group of thirteen dogs deserted by their owner. All the dogs were in bad shape when found. The person who first found them was able to find homes for all but three. These three she turned over to MCOA Rescue. Homes have now been found for all.
Sally was boarded at a lovely kennel in the mountains for several months and was on a special diet to help gain weight since she was VERY thin when rescued.
Sally is sweet and friendly with adult people.
See the photos below. We'll get more follow-up photo before long.
She was adopted on July 3, 2002.

And now in the words of her adopter -

Sally & I are having a ball! We came home Wednesday the 3rd (now Sally's 4th birthday) and had a great ride to Raleigh from the mountains. Dad & Craig came up the weekend before Sally came home and put up a great (and very sturdy) fence in the back yard. THANKS GUYS!!
Boy, she likes to ride in the car, however, she doesn't care much for getting out - I think her philosophy is "No, I'm comfortable, I think I'll stay here in the A/C, and besides riding is much easier than walking! Every time we head out the front door for a walk around she stops at the car door to see if we can go for a ride instead.

Sally is a people person; well, that is any person who will get down on the floor and rub her. We haven't tried meeting other dogs yet, but that will come soon also. Obedience class is on the way. Not that she needs much, just the basics. Even thought the kitchen table is at eye level, if you ignore her while you are eating she politely goes and lies down and waits for you to finish.
And Miss Sally takes her "Rescue" title seriously! The other morning she headed out the dog door to the back yard - to notify all the neighbors that there was a fire truck going by, out there somewhere, and to please make room for them. She let out a couple of long howls that I'm sure upset the neighborhood rooster (it's a tight job market out there).

Sally has her very own room - although she prefers the "tv" chair in the kitchen to any other sleeping spot! And speaking of the tv - she will sit at attention watching whatever is on - completely intrigued. There are lots of sounds Sally hasn't heard before, dishwasher, washer & dryer, printers - although the printer has been the funniest yet. I started printing out a page and it made is whirr & buzz and started sending the page out - she cocked her head to the side, sniffed real hard, and then tried licking the paper! What an expression! She is not bothered by the doorbell or people at the door. One night this week, as she was snoozing in her chair, the doorbell rang, she cracked on eye (only slightly) as if to say, "Can't you see I'm sleeping, chop, chop, go get the door and make that sound stop." Mellow is Sally's middle name!
Thank you so much for all you do to makes it possible! Sally and I are two peas in a pod and loving it.

Tennessee

Sweet Shelby
Sweet Shelby is a 6 year old fawn female who was surrendered to the animal shelter by her owners. She had been bred extensively and her girlish figure was gone. Since being rescued she's been spayed and had a much needed "tummy tuck." Her health is good. She's heartworm negative, current on shots and her only problem seems to be a flea allergy that's being treated with Frontline. Sweet Shelby is fairly small weighing about 110lbs, but will likely gain since being spayed and leaving the shelter. She is very friendly, "snores" when she's excited, and seems so very grateful for any attention she gets. She hasn't exhibited any aggression towards other dogs, but she does not like cats. Sweet Shelby found her loving forever home on August 24, 2002.

Duchess
In her short 1 1/2 years of life, Duchess has had two homes and is now in her second foster home. Duchess is very sweet, gentle, and playful, and it is not her fault that all her humans have had health problems and/or had to make major moves to far away places.
Duchess is a small brindle female. She is spayed, is heartworm negative and up to date on her vaccinations. Her only problem seems to be that someone fed her too well, and she needs to lose a few pounds.
Duchess is housebroken and walks well on lead. She likes people - adults and children. She likes cats and other dogs her size or larger, but she does not like little dogs.

Duchess was adopted 11/2/02.
