The following mastiffs in the South Atlantic Region have been adopted. Their stories are both interesting and at the same time sad. Fortunately, these mastiffs are now happily living with their adopted families. They have now escaped from the terrible conditions which most of them once encountered.

Sam receiving his rescue medal and ribbon at the specialty Sam
Sam, a 17 month old fawn male, was a pitiful sight when we rescued him from a shelter. He had demodectic mange, infected eyes because of entropion, and was cryptorchid. But . . . his confidence and charisma shone through despite his problems. His foster parents - now his forever family - saw him through dippings for mange, neutering, and eye operations and fell in love.
Sam now is fulltime manager of two humans and a 70 acre farm where he enjoys running through the woods checking on groundhog holes and chasing deer. He is well traveled having been on skiing tips, to the beach, and to the national specialty in Atlanta. This picture shows Sam, in great condition, receiving his rescue medal and ribbon at the specialty.

Maddie
When Maddie was seven months old, she was hit by a car and suffered a crushed femur and pneumothorax. Her family could not afford to pay for the extensive treatment that would be required and were going to resort to euthanasia. Their vet contacted Mastiff Rescue and thus gave Maddie her chance for life.
After operations and several months of recuperating, Maddie was placed with a family. The adoption did not work out - mainly because Maddie was a very large, exuberant, untrained puppy. We took Maddie as a foster when she was 11 months old and still on restricted activity. by the time she was declared healed and ready to go, she was part of this family - so we adopted her.
Today Maddie enjoys playing with her sister mastiffs, Merry Belle and Katie, barking at the cats, playing in the water hose and pool and snoozing on "her" king-sized bed. She also enjoys obedience training - especially the "cookie" part!

Uhgg

Uhgg

Uhgg
"
When I found Uhgg, he was done in - skinny as a rail and just had that 'I give up' look on his face. If we had run him off, I believe he would have died that day. The first two days he just ate and slept on the front porch and just looked grateful to be somewhere."
This is what the person who saved Uhgg said when he called Mastiff Rescue.
Uhgg is an approximately 2 year old, apricot, intact dog. He is heartworm negative, and has been given his vaccinations. He was treated for hookworm. His rescuer fostered him.
He was in such emaciated condition that his neutering had to wait until he built up some. On x-ray, it was found that he had old healed fractures of the pelvis and femur. He also had shotgun pellets in his rear!
His temperament is wonderful. He gets along well with all kinds of animals. He rides well, walks well on a leash, and wags when spoken to. He has finally found his forever home.

Bay

Bay
Bay is a sweet 1 year old brindle female. She is current on all vaccinations and has been spayed. She is wonderful with adults and children, but has a bit of an attitude problem with other dogs. This young girl was
adopted during the first week of October 2001.

Quarry- a.k.a. Pebbles
Quarry, a young male mastiff, had been living in a quarry in Middle Tennessee for several months before the workers there could approach him. They were finally able to convince him to get in a car for a ride to the vet. Mastiff Rescue was called, and Quarry was rescued.
X-rays showed that Quarry had had a dislocated hip - probably from being struck by a car - which had not been treated and had healed improperly. Because of this, he had trouble negotiating stairs, but got around well otherwise.
After being neutered and getting his vaccinations and heartworm tests, Quarry was transported to the mountains of North Carolina to be fostered and now,
in October 2001, adopted by a wonderful lady there.

Butch and ballButch
Updated.
Hi, my name is Butch and I am 5 years old. I am a pretty sweet fawn boy and since the nice lady in Rescue took me in and had her nice doggie doctor take care of me, I am a healthy and happy boy. I've gained a lot of weight with all the good food and treats I get here .. I weigh 160 lbs. now and boy do I look good!!
I really liked at my foster mom's, but I sure would like to have my own personal family to cuddle up with. It would be nice if you have a nice furgirl to be my girlfriend and playpal too. I like big girls. I like to play soccer with the kids around here too. I'm really good with bigger kids .. real small children make me a little nervous, but I really like to play with kids from about 8 yrs old and older.
Do you have room for me in your hearts and on your couch? I would really love to have a family of my very own who will protect me from thunderstorms.
I'm Butch Info: Butch is great with larger children (8 yrs old & up), but he does not need to be around small children or animals. As a matter of fact, Butch seems to harbor quite a grudge against small fluffy animals. He has done well with all the dogs at my house, but they are all 115 lbs and larger and they are all female. Since Butch was not neutered until this past fall, he is rather territorial with male dogs. Butch is a beautifully behaved dog. He walks well on leash and is completely and reliably housebroken. He has excellent house manners and does not cruise the countertops or chew destructively. He is very nervous with storms. He will sit as close to you as he can during a storm. If you aren't at home, he is going to weather the storm under a table or in a closet. After nearly 1 year, Butch was
Adopted - October 2001.
