Carp Carp are probably Britain's favourite fish due to the size that they grow and how hard they fight. You can catch these with minimum or light tackle, but if you are hunting a specimen then you need strong line and rods. RECORD: 56lb 6oz Tench Tench are a beautiful fish. They are olive green with red eyes. They do not grow as big as carp but still are great fighters. RECORD: 14lb 7oz Bream Bream swim in shoals and when they grow into "proper" bream the groups get smaller. RECORD: 16lb 9oz Barbel Barbel are sleek, golden, hard fighters that live in powerful, high oxygenated waters. RECORD: 17lb 4oz Crucian Carp These are smaller than carp but still a member of the same family. They resemble a small carp with no barbules and a protuding lower jaw. RECORD: 4lb 2oz Grass Carp These are longer and thiner than normal carp, but are also a member of the sae family. RECORD: 31lb Catfish (wells) These predators grow very big on the continent sometimes to 140 or 150lbs, but they are Britains largest fish. RECORD: 62lb Chub: Chub resemble grass carp but are much smaller. They have huge mouths so do not worry about using small hooks. RECORD: 8lb 10oz Dace Dace are smaller than most fish, they are silvery like roach or small chub. RECORD: 1lb 4oz |
