About Thomax

That's me! Hi, my name is Thomas Montgomery, and this is my Final Fantasy V site, my only site. I work alone here and I don't get paid. I did this site 'cause I love FF5 and I was testing my HTML skills...but then my test page later grew bigger and bigger until it became what you see now, a full grown FF5 information database.

That's me to the left at my sister's graduation a number of weeks ago (My sister is Kim, the one who made all those great fanarts).

Final Fantasy V was the first Final Fantasy game I have played and beaten. Over the last year or so, my knowledge of this game has driven me to make this page. I have tons of sources of info that I collected and gathered together. Every FF fan should play this game because it's just plain fun and different! I think this game's strongest aspect is it's battle/job system. I'm going to try to keep this site growing for the next 3 or so years (just a goal, no promises). Someday, I'll get myself my own domain name and stuff like that (again, no promises). But until then, Geocities' junky 15 megabytes will suffice. So far, my entire page is less than 9 megabytes (I'm cramming it all in!).

Below is miscellaneous info on me.

My Commentaries of Each Final Fantasy *spoilers*

Final Fantasy I: I've played this game for about 10 minutes, so I don't know know too much about this game except that is supposedly really hard. I have heard from others out there that it a really good game, so I'll probably play it over the summer.

Final Fantasy IIj: I've spent about 20 hours playing this game just trying to level up to stay alive against normal enemies! This game, to me, is extremely boring. I'm really close to the end, so I'll probably finish it over the summer. The fighting system in this game is quite unique. Your characters don't "Level up" like in all the other FF's. Instead, your weapons and magic level up and become stronger as you use them. And your stats become stronger or weaker depending on the way you fight. If you lose a lot of HP in a battle, than your max HP will increase after the battle, same with MP. And if you use your sword a lot, than your strength will go up, same with goes with magic power. I guess this was the only really interesting part about the game. Basically, this game is about saving princesses, avenging deaths and so on (and the good guy die like flies in this game!)... The game stays a bit interesting as your fourth party member continues you change until the end of the game. Anyway...maybe it's just the shabby translation of the game? Oh, one of the neat parts was the first appearance of Cid and moogles (moogles are brown here, and Cid rents off his airship for cash).

Final Fantasy IIIj: For this one, I've played for maybe 5 minutes? Don't have a clue to the game besides the fact that it introduced jobs.

Final Fantasy IV: FFIV was the 2nd FF I completed. This one was a bit hard, but I can say that I really liked this one. This is the only FF where you can control 5 characters in a battle. This is also the first FF where you get to fight with Cid in your party (he fights with a hammer). I'm not quite sure what made me like this game so much. I beat it almost 2 years ago, so I'm not sure if it was the story, or the fact that your characters keep getting killed off in the story (okay, Palom and Porum don't really "die", they just never fight again).

Final Fantasy V: My absolute favorite FF game! (FFVII comes extremely close). The whole Job System is what pulled me into this game. I'm a sucker for customizable stuff, and FFV hit me just in the right spot. Also, this was the first FF I played, and I was addicted to it in an instant. I remember getting up at 4 in the morning just to get more time to play it before I had to go to school! Yep, I'm crazy. I also like the music and storyline a lot. And I think storyline, music and gameplay are the two most important aspects in an RPG. And lucky for us, we have Nobuo writing fantastic music every time!

Final Fantasy VI: Ummmm...Everyone seems to say this is the absolute RPG in the entire world...but I didn't find it to be so extreme. Maybe it was because I used a strategy guide that ruined all the surprises. I was even told not to use a strategy guide for this one! Stupid me. Now I'll never see how great this game would have been with all the surprises. Anyway, the storyline was great, but I honestly thought the magic/esper system was dull. I liked the fact that there were 16 playable characters, each with his/her own special abilities and lots of side quests. I plead with you not to use a walkthrough or stategy guide for this game. Don't make the same mistake I did!!!

Final Fantasy VII: I loved this game so much! The storyline was so intense and kept me in my seat for hours on end. I semi-liked the materia system, but I thought it was rather tedious having to equip and unequip 10+ materia orbs all the time for everyone. This game was REALLY easy (I'm not sure if that was a good or bad thing). By the end of the game, I'm taking of 40,000 HP with the regular Fight command (4xCut). I wouldn't be surprised if Knights of the Round stays ruler as the strongest attack in RPG history forever. This game was just plain fun.

Final Fantasy VIII: They really screwed up with this game's story. They gave it the theme of Love, even through Squall keeps blowing Rinoa off for most of the entire game! Squall is a jerk. Anyway, they battle system was okay, but again, the Junctioning and unJunctioning became tedious (at least you were capable of swaping things around to save time). One of things I noticed a lot in this game is that when you level up, your stats hardly change at all! I hated that! And the card game was way too hard. But I can't say I hated this game totally, but it's my least favorite by far.

Final Fantasy IX: This was a big change back to the original style of Final Fantasy games. I kind of like the battle system, but I didn't like the fact that you can't store your trance like you could store a Limit Break in VII. And they didn't have enough background of Freya and Sir Fratley. And it kept bugging me to not know if Quina was male or female! In in my personal opinion, I think castles and the whole time period looks betting in the SNES's 2d pixel graphics.

Final Fantasy X: Well, the game isn't even out yet, but I still won't be able to get it when it does because I simply don't own a PS2, and probably won't for a while. But I might get a PS2 for Christmas.
