Cleaning off the Unwanted

Is your computer too slow?
Here are a few tips to help you get your computer going faster.
This tutorial will delete 3 types of files from your computer:

  1. Cookies,
  2. History, which is records kept of all of the sites you have visited in the past X number of days. (Day number settings can be changed in the Internet Properties box).
  3. And finally, Temporary Internet Files, which are files - like pictures - that are downloaded and stored on your computer so that when you go back to a website, it's faster and it doesn't have to take such a long time to load again.
The only problem with this - even though it makes the internet loading time faster, is that it slows down your computer's performance, which is bad.
  • First, open up Internet Explorer.
  • Now, click on the history tab up next to the Media tab. It should look like a clock with an arrow going 'round it.
  • Now, you see there are days listed there such as Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday...up until Today? Well, there are two things you can do at this point: You can either
    1. right-click and delete those days one by one, or
    2. follow the rest of this tutorial and get more results
  • Now close that window, and right-click on your Internet Explorer icon (should be on the desktop, but if not go to your Start menu and do it that way) and select Properties.
  • Now, click on the button that says "Delete Cookies" and then click OK
  • Click on "Clear History" and click OK.
    1. Now open up your browser again and go to the History tab again. It should all be gone.
  • Now click on "Delete Files" on the dialogue box that comes up, check the box saying "Delete all offline content" and then click OK.
  • Click OK at the bottom of the Internet Properties window and you're done!
If you are still having trouble, then see the next tutorial in this series, Anti-Badware.
