Suspender Fly

Hook:

Mustad or similar that has a small barb to enable the beads to pass onto the hook shank.

Suspender Float

A polystyrene ball, enclosed in white ‘tights’ material, is lashed behind the eye of the hook. The tag of white material is positioned and trimmed to represent the breathers of the natural. The thread is then tied off completely before the next stage.

Body:

The body can be of tying thread which may be varnished or lightly dubbed.

SUPER-GLUE MELTS POLYSTYRENE!

This Suspender pattern is effective on stillwaters. It is also effective on rivers and stillwaters without the suspender 'float'. It can be fished 'static' and drifting with the wind.

Shrimp

Hook:

Mustad or similar, with the front section bent down slightly with pliers.

Body:

Copper wire in touching turns from bend to eye and snipped off at each end. Simple but effective.

Flat Calm Emerger

Hook:

Mustad s14 Dry

Tying thread:

black

Body:

Wax the thread and dub with coarse seal fur in touching turns to the bend. Then wind over it with the thread to the eye and tie off.
Usual colour
is black or brown.

A bit of floatant can make the emerger pattern float in/on/or near the surface in a flat calm.
5lb or .16mm tippet is recommended with this fly.
