Year 2006 was an eventful year for the figure skaters and ice hockey kids of FCFISC as they skated in the ice rinks of Manila, Kuala Lumpur, Shenzen, Boston, Singapore and jumped into the cool blue waters of Punta Fuego and Greenhills.  Of course, a side trip to Hong Kong Disneyland was not to be missed.

VOYAGER'S at the World Ice Hockey 5's, Kuala Lumpur

The World Ice Hockey 5’s Tournament 2006 was held on May 2-6, 2006 at the Pyramid Ice, Sunway Pyramid Mall in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.  It attracted 60 teams from 15 different countries, including the Philippines, from International Division to Atoms Division.

The Manila Voyagers was one of the teams who joined the hockey league under the Squirts Division (9-12 years old).  Headed by Coach Bong dela Cerna, the members of the team are Ashley Alcancia, Louis Alix, Vincent Cuevas, Miguel Dimacali, Raphael Dimacali, Miguel Relampagos, Julian Santiago, Julius Santiago and Kendrick Torres.

The Manila Voyagers played against the Beijing Dragons, Hong Kong Panasonic and Qatar Desert Flames. Although our team lost, they surely put up a good fight.  Qatar Desert Flames emerged as the champion in the Squirts B Division.  Hong Kong Panasonic was the runner up.

Joining an International competition was indeed a great experience for the kids.

February 2006  Philippine Grand Prix : Mary Ann Limjoco, Medalist

FCFISC's Mary Ann Limjoco, competed for the very first time in our country's National Grand Prix Figure Skating Championships last March 18 - 19 at the SM Ice Skating Rinks and topped the short program event in single skating against 12 other figure skaters in the pre-juvenile category.

Skating Mom Evelyn cheered on with nerves on edge with friends and family while Mary Ann skated through her music with fluidity, precision, and clean edges while the mere presence of her coach encouraged Mary Ann.

Hours and months of practice paid off as Mary Ann skated to the top rank of the short program in just a matter of 2 minutes.   Organized by parent groups in conjunction with the Philippine Ice Skating Union, the Philippine Grand Prix is an open competition that follows the International Ice Skating Union Standards .

For more information on ISU regulations for Single Skating, visit their website at www.isu.org.

Thanks to Mary Ann, her parents, family, friends and coaches for sharing this important event in her life with the other members of FCFISC.

Mary Ann may you skate your personal best at all times and give thanks always to our Lord.

April 2006  Sports Development, Skating and ADHD: FCFISC member Robby Alix

Sports Development, skating  and ADHD

When your child is diagnosed with a learning disability with a name mostly comprised of capped letters such as ADHD and when parenting becomes overwhelmingly  full of challenges, you may be encouraged to learn how sports, skating in particular, may actually turn your worries into new sources of joy for you and your child.

Smart Parenting April 2006 writes about  FCFISC member Robby Alix and how skating harnesses his boundless energy into channeled outlets of  excellence in  sports, boosting self-esteem and self confidence in the 7 year old cool kid diagnosed with ADHD.

     2006 Skate Manila

Last November, for the first time in Manila's skating history, the organizers of the annual Skate Manila Skating Competition experimented on an interclub competitions. Coming from Skate Asia 2006 in Shenzen, many of FCFISC members opted to concentrate on their academic studies to make up for the many days of absences during the China competition. Inspite of a low participation rate, the participating members of FCFISC was still able to skate not too far behind from their other skating comrades from other skating clubs.

   2006 Jump & Swim at Carlo's

Milenyong Jump & Swim

Soon after the wind of Milenyo sweeped  and immersed the nation into days of power shortage last November, the ice princesses of FCFISC spent an afternoon doing axels and spins in the air, landing in a couple of feet of chlorine blue water!

Needless to say, parents of these princesses tried to catch up on much needed relaxation by the poolside with the music of their children's shrieks and laughter.

Thanks Coach Carlo for the tremendous treat!

Just in case KFC is reading...hmm..our girls love KFC!!! Would you like to sponsor us? They sure can eat a lot!!! They love it too that you are always in the mall where the skating rinks are..be it in Manila or in SE Asia!!!
