Coats For Kids (& Adults)

No one should ever be cold...ever, especially the kids.

Frostburg Lions realize this, and to help keep our friends and neighbors warm this winter we are having a COATS FOR KIDS (& Adults) drive to collect coats for the homeless and needy in western Maryland and the region.

It gets cold at the bus stop, or maybe under a bridge, or sitting at home with the thermostate set low, because of the cost of fuel. It sure does get cold.

Even seen a kid, in the dead of winter wearing shorts, short sleeve t-shirt and no coat. You say: "that kids parents must be nuts." On the other hand, maybe they just don't have. Well, we don't know, but we do know this: no kid, or adult, should ever be cold in the winter because they have no coat. And we want to help correct that.

This fall when you visit the coat closet and say "which coat should I wear today" we want you to stop and think about those cold days. Is it that important for you to have five different coats, when others have none.

Here's what we're going to do:

The Frostburg Lions club is going to have a Coats for Kids (and Adults) coat collection on October 25. The extra coats, the one that is just a tad too small, or the kids don't wear anymore, or one of those hanging in the closet - they're the ones we want. Our plan is simple: folks can bring there extra coats to us in downtown Frostburg - how easy is that.

Coats should be, as we like to say: "something you would give your kid, grandkids, or mom and dad." Good repair, clean and ready for use.

Our drop off point(s) haven't been selected yet, but they will certainly be convenient.

Once we have the coats you donated, we will sort them by size, and prepare them for donation to the Salvation Army, Rescue Mission, and other resources in our region who deal with folks that can use a good coat.

Most folks have an extra coat or two in the hall closet, that hardly gets any use. It's time for those coats to see the light of day, and be proudly worn by those who can really use them.

Search the closets, ask friends and relatives, but please, bring us the coats.
