| Our Mission Our mission is to educate the public on what care goes into keeping a giant green iguana. Iguanas have become the disposable pets of the '90's and our members are dedicated to reversing this title. We are not animal activists but chose a passive way to get our word out. Care sheets, this web page, visits to reptile shows, talks, radio shows, television, and other types of media help spread the word that "Iguanas are hard to care for ... but easy to love." How can you help? If you are a member of a reptile society that hosts reptile shows, offer a free table to NIAD. If you work for the media, see if someone will interview one of our members. If you are a vet, hand out accurate care information to your patients and recommend another vet if you are not used to dealing with iguanas. |
| Organization Guidelines 1) NIAD is not an animal activist organization. Our goal is to educate. 2) If a web site/pet store/tv show have the potential to do harm to iguanas, don't write or respond to the source right away. Your first action will be to contact me. I will assist you in the response 3) If asked to write a letter, use the format proposed by Melissa Kaplan on her web site. The goal is to use facts, not your emotions. The letter can provide an emotional response in regard to iguanas, but you are not permitted to call the person names or damage their reputation in any way. 4) Before sending a letter, as state coordinator, I must ok it. 5) Stay in touch with me as coordinator 6) If your e-mail address changes please contact [email protected] 7) You are now ready to sign up. Email me for an application. |
