| Side note on adoption fees. Most time fees are a minimal. However certain reptiles can be easily considered a higher risk animal and the fee will apply. This will be shown in larger snakes and more advanced or harder to handle lizards such as monitors. Care of these animals may require higher feeding costs to the rescue as well as a potential danger to a begining reptile enthusiast. The higher adoption fee is placed as a way to not only cover the costs of caring for the animal but to weed out impulse adoptions or people who have no experience with a harder to handle animal. This is not an effort to make a profit (I promise that I do not and never will recoup a single years costs with this) but more a selective adoption process and an effort to cover SOME of our costs. All non-iguanas are taken upon arrival to a vet to be check. Iguanas do also go in on a case by case basis. Since my area that I am truely comfortable in accessing current health is limited, occasionally I need to take animals to the vet. There are also several animals that are not listed on site, but currently in quarentine on premise. |
