Timberland is a world's known company
for mountain climbing and
hiking boots, but they are an important element of fashion
these days. These boots are quite popular in the African American, Latin &
West Indian culture of New Jersey & New York. Apart from making boots and
shoes the Timberland Company is also into apparel market including leather
goods,
eyewear, watches and many other goods.
It all started in 1918 in Boston, Massachusetts where Nathan Swartz started
as an apprentice stitched boots. In 1952 he bought half an interest of
Abington Shoe company and later he bought the remaining also in 1955 and
than brought his son into this business and after 10 years the company
introduced the injection molding technology for
shoes which fused the
leather upper without stitching with the soles and the result was a
waterproof shoe. They were the first to introduce this technology in the
shoe industry that time.
The name Timberland came for the waterproof leather boot which became very
popular and because of this reason the company official name was changed to
TIMBERLAND Company. These
waterproof boots are made of premium leather uppers,
leather linings, thermal micro fiber and quality foam, padded collar,
rustproof hardware, taslan fiber laces, sole made of polyurethane
construction attached to durable rubber outsole and fiber glass shanks.
After 1978 the Timberland Company became more than a boot making company and
started introducing its line of casual and boat
boots to its product range
of footwear. And it the 1980's the company expanded internationally, first
into the Italian market and later to many other countries as an
international lifestyle brand and added clothing and women's shoes to its
products. It was in Italy when Sidney Swartz one of the founder's sons took
the leadership. And he still serves the chairman of the company. The company
produced more great products and expanded it product range to watches,
socks, backpacks, kids boots and gears through out the 1990's.
In 1998 the timberland company introduced the Timberland Pro series "Work
boots for professionals" which promised to be durable, long
lasting, comfortable and fits well. Later Jeffrey Swartz took over as the
CEO of the company and changed Timberland to a socially responsible
corporation continuing the legacy of his ancestors.
The Timberland Company is into community service also, it
encourages striving to unite young people from various backgrounds. The
company also participates in a program which gives employees 40 hours paid
off time to serve for their communities.
In 2006 Timberland acquired a British based clothing company named Howies
and recently acquired Ipath a skateboard footwear company. The timberland
shoes are used by various actors and actresses in various movies in the
Hollywood. Steve Irwin "The crocodile Hunter" use to wear
timberland boots. The American record producer and
composer Timothy Z. Mosley known as Timbaland got his name for wearing
timberland boots on stage which became popular in hip hop fashion.
The Timberland Boots are committed to footwear better and have become a
