The Rings

Remember how I said I had a budget and had to prioritize? Well, the rings were one of the items that we didn't think were really important to spend a lot of money on. Some people won't agree with me on this, but everyone has different priorrities. Other than our own personal preferances, we also went with practicality. For one thing, Doyle's a mechanic and works with his hands, so wearing a ring at work isn't even an option. I myself, have this terrible tendancy to lose jewelry, so I was hard pressed to thow down a lot of money on something I was afraid to lose. (But so far, I haven't lost my ring!)

The Successes...

I'd decided to go with a small and simple band for the both of us. Since we'd initially eloped, I didn't have an engagement ring. There was really no need for one. For Doyle, he doesn't really wear jewelry and he'd only have his ring on when we went out. I didn't even bother to get one for him right after the elopement. But I did want to get him something for the ceremony. I was temped to use another bride's idea and maybe get him a pocket watch for the ceremony, but somehow I felt it was a little too practical and the symbolism of eternity wasn't there with the watch.

The Glitch...

The hardest part was that I didn't have an engagement ring to show off. I know it's a little shallow, but.do you know how hard it is to be planning a wedding with only a wedding band? I don't know how many people asked to see "the Rock" or "the Ring" and when I only showed a band they all had this disappointed look on their faces. Eventually I got over it, but I have to admit, those were a little hard to deal with. Maybe one day I'll have a diamond (which is something I do want) but right now, I'm really happy with my beautiful and simple band. It's the meaning behind it that makes me happy.
