"What separates us from the animals is our ability to accessorize.:" Steel Magnolias
I hope I didn't botch-up that quote too much, but I've always got a kick out of it! With every dress, you need the proper accessories to finish off the outfit. Cinderella did have her glass slippers you know.

For jewelry, I was lucky. Mom brought pearls to match my ensemble. It was a beautiful multi-strand choker of freshwater seed pearls she got from the Phillipines with a matching bracelet. She also had a pair of heart-shaped earrings made with pearl, and a ring with a cluster of 5 freshwater pearls. It was really touching when she sighed, "Oh I guess you can hold on to these until I need them". Which was her way of giving them to me.
I also bought a pair of shoes in the summertime that I did NOT get in the bridal department. These were from a department store and they were just as (if not more so) beautiful as any pair of "bridal" shoes at 1/2 the cost! These were ivory, silk, closed-toe sandals with a straps in the back and ivory embroidery on the front. They were fabulous!
Even though I had a veil made from the same place I had my flowers done, at the last minute, I wanted a fuller, waterfall veil with a semi-cathedral length. I know that for a casual wedding it's considered "inappropriate" but I dared to dream! I mean what was the worse that couldve happened? Someone telling me it was a no-no? Tough cookies on that thought. I mean, I didn't wear a long, sheer curtain all those times when I was little just to end up with a finger-tip length veil on my big day! I admint, there was some concern that I wouldn't match the groom with his linen pants, mandarin collar and sans tie, but we looked great and I got my flow-ey veil. You could almost see it in the lower part of my pictures in the album.
As far as makeup goes, I don't wear much, so I did my own, and so did my Bridesmaids. I was having an outdoor wedding in the middle of summer, so the last thing I wanted was a melting face! I chose a lipstick that would last all day (and it did!) eyeliner, a touch of blush and my favorite, false eyelashes! They brought out my almond shaped eyes and looked great in the pics. Best of all, no racoon eyes from all the crying I did! My sister also dusted my face with basic baby powder and my make-up was set for the entire day. Not once did I even touch up. You tell me if I needed any more by checking out the picture at the bottom of the second reception page that was taken at the end of the night. |

I was initially going to do my own hair in a simple, curley pony tail at the top of my head (would've been covered by the veil anyway), but my bridesmaids convinced me that I wouldn't have time, and it would be a good way to relax... treat myself to something special. Besides it would only cost about $35 to do it, right? I gotta admit, really loved my hair up-do, but I had to pay for that, I had to pay for a trial, and I had to pay to get it cut since I had too many fly-aways would stick out. Granted, many brides spend more than I did, and I DID feel really beautiful, but I spent a total of $135 of something I didn't expect to. I also shouldn've chosen a do that could withstand my dancing during the reception! After Ricky Martin's "Livin' LaVida Loca", my "do" was done.
I didn't need a bridal purse. Why? Everything was at the house and everything I may have needed to put in the purse was readily available in the house! It was too cute to pass up, but I'm such a sucker for "Too Cute". I could've saved $45. I know, not much of an expense, but it was never used. |
