This summer my dad, brother and I started building a house in Winkler for my parents.
Construction began on June 16th, the day after I ran in the Manitoba Marathon. We started by staking out the basement which would be dug (+3 feet larger all around). The basement was dug in under a day. We then built forms for the concrete footing, which is a 2 foot wide by 9 inches deep (not shown). After the footing was poured, it's forms came off and drain tile was dug in. The tiling hoses run the perimater of the footing and lead to the sump hole in the basement. Stones are then poured into the basment via a Concrete Redi-Mix truck. Logix block wall segements were delivered, set up, reinforced and poured. The floor joists were installed and flooring put on. The garage pilings were dug, poured and the forms set up. We poured the concrete and I went on vacation to Edmonton to participate in a wedding. The outside walls were build and erected, the rafters put up, the roof put on and shingled and outside insulation put on. Windows/doors were installed as well as garage doors and by now the house is relatively closed up. The soffets and facia were installed by a custom installer from Plum Coulee and basement plumbing was installed by Winkler Plumbing & Heating. Somewhere in that time we put up the ceiling drywall. The basement floor could now be poured (and was). The interior walls were build by George Krahn Construction and electrical work started. |
