Installation of the Main Floor
Installation of the main floor
(The basement is really just an 8 foot crawlspace.)

After the basement walls were poured, installation of the main floor began.  The supporting I-beams were installed and the engineered floor joists spanned the gap.  We laid T&G (tongue and groove) OSB sheets over the joists, first gluing all contact points, then later screwing down the sheet.  All wood-on-wood connections in this floor are glued and screwed.  Assembly took almost a week.

One of the major challenges of putting on the floor was the fact that the basement walls had not yet been backfilled.  When the basement hole was dug, it was dug 3 feet larger than the actual basement.  This allowed us to walk around the perimiter of the basement in the hole.  The concrete in the walls needs a week to cure before the walls can be backfilled and so working on this floor, there was a constant 3 foot gap 8 feet down that we had to jump or stretch over.  This was quite a challenge when fastening the joists onto the end plate around th perimiter of the floor.
